French<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> is the only language other than English spoken on five continents. French, along with English, is the official working language of: The United Nations; The International Olympic Committee; the European Community and the International Red Cross. France is a major world leader in medical research, electronics manufacturing, telecommunications and aircraft and car production. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The purpose of all courses is to develop the skills of listening, talking, reading, writing, to understand and use French <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">to communicate<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s83\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 3\/4<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Two units: Using Language and Understanding Language \u2013 units are internally assessed. To achieve <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 4<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">, pupils must complete an Added Value Unit, in order to complete the course.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s83\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 5<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Two units: Using Language and Understanding Language \u2013 units are internally assessed. In addition, there is a dual purpose Added Value assessment \u2013 talking, worth 30%. Pupils sit external exams in reading, listening and writing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Modern Languages for Life and Work Award &#8211; French<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">This course has <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">3<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> units \u2013 Modern Languages for Work Purposes; Modern Languages for Life; Building Own Employability Skills. \u00a0Units are internally assessed. It could be considered as an alternative to National 3 or National 4.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s83\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">CFE Higher French<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s86\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s86\">\n<div class=\"s87\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 5 pass in French<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> \u2013 consideration given to other results on an individual basis.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s86\"><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">This course comprises two units<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> &#8211;<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Understanding Language &amp; Using Language. The units <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">build on <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">the contexts<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> covered in the National 5 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">C<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">ourse<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">: Society, Learning, Employability and Culture. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">To gain a course award, pupils must pass <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s89\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">both<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> units as well as their external <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">course assessments<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s86\">\n<p class=\"s86\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Advanced Higher French<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s90\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">\u2013 This course may be available to students who have passed Higher French and can successfully demonstrate the ability to work independently. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s86\">\n<p class=\"s86\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Progression<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s86\">\n<p class=\"s86\"><span class=\"s88\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">A study of job adverts will show an increasing requirement for competence in foreign languages. Colleges and Universities offer courses, including the Sciences and Engineering, Law and Accountancy, which now include a European language option and the chance to study abroad for a year.
