Pupils will develop programming skills in two different environments, both with real world connections. There is a mixture of individual and collaborative group work throughout the course where pupils explore a variety of specialist areas through pract<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">ical and investigative tasks. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pupils will have the opportunity to develop thinking skills and skills in numeracy, employability, enterprise and citizenship.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s72\">\n<p class=\"s72\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 4\/5<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s72\">\n<p class=\"s72\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The National 4 Computing Course enables learners to develop <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">skills in analysis and problem solving, design and modelling, developing and implementing solutions, and evaluating digital solutions. Course activities also provide opportunities for pupils to enhance skills in planning and organising, working independently and in teams, critical thinking and decision making, research, communication and self and peer evaluation, in a range of contexts.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s71\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">In S4 pupils will complete the following two units: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s71\">\n<div class=\"s73\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Software Design and Development<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s73\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Information System Design and Development<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s71\">\n<p class=\"s74\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The course embeds the development of a range of literacy and numeracy skills, and considers various aspects of Health &amp; Wellbeing.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> Note that Computing Science counts as a Science subject.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher Computing<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 5 pass in Computing Science<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">COMPUTING &#8211; HIGHER<\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s71\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">In addition to the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Course assessment,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> the Course includes two mandatory Units &#8211;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s71\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Software Design and Development<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Information System Design and Development<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s71\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Each of these Units is designed to provide progression from the related Unit at National 5 and to related Units at Advanced Higher. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Unit assessment All Units are internally assessed against the given SQA requirements. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Course Assessment:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">consists of two components with weightings as follows:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Written examination \u00a0 \u00a060% \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Practical coursework \u00a0 40% \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Progression<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Computing science is a fast-moving field that brings together many disciplines, including mathematics, programming, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">physics<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">engineering, the natural sciences, psychology and linguistics<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">It will also provide you with essential skills required for employment and further education. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Note &#8211; It is essential to have coding skills to study Physics at university. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The world has thousands of unfilled jobs requiring Computing Science skills.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Computing develops learners computational thinking and problem solving skills which are essential for all pupils entering the workplace.
