{"id":119,"date":"2019-12-30T00:17:27","date_gmt":"2019-12-30T00:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsscurricularpathways\/?page_id=119"},"modified":"2024-12-16T21:09:13","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T21:09:13","slug":"pathways-to-the-senior-phase-travel-tourism-with-national-4-geography","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsscurricularpathways\/curricular-areas\/languages\/pathways-to-the-senior-phase-travel-tourism-with-national-4-geography\/","title":{"rendered":"Pathways to the Senior Phase: Travel and Tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s85\"><span class=\"s17\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Pathways to the Senior Phase: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s17\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Travel &amp; Tourism<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Travel and Tourism develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes, needed for work in the travel and tourism industry. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">This course is ideal for improving employability skills in young people in terms of communication, decision making skills and enhancing a young person\u2019s knowledge of the world around them. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s109\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 4\/5<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">There are four main units contained within the course.\u00a0 The Employability unit aims to teach pupils to become effective job seekers and employees in the travel and tourism industry.\u00a0 Secondly, the Customer Service unit allows pupils to learn the skills which are required to work in that industry.\u00a0 For example, they will develop their communication skills and learn how to handle complaints.\u00a0 The Scotland unit allows pupils to enhance their knowledge of Scottish tourism, whereas in the final unit, UK and Worldwide, pupils develop an understanding of international tourism.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pupils simply need to be keen to learn about Travel &amp; Tourism. This class suits a range of abilities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pupils must successfully complete and pass all four units to pass the course.\u00a0 There is no final examination.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s45\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Progression <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s85\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">There are college courses that specialise further in Travel and Tourism. Possible careers that this course would be suited to include the expanding tourism trade as well as environmental, retail and service industries\u2013 the biggest employers in Scotland. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">All Social Subjects courses will be accessible for those who have passed <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">the Travel &amp; Tourism course.
