While Politics is in a sense everywhere and significant in everyone\u2019s lives there is no single focus, no entire approach that can provide all the answers to political questions. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher Politics helps enlighten pupils in regards to who makes the big decisions that affect their lives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pupils will be involved in cooperative, active learning where they will develop their analytical skills. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The investigative and critical thinking activities in this course give learners important experience in contributing to group work and also working on their own. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Particular knowledge, understanding and skills will be developed: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s116\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">political concepts, models and theories and the ability to relate these to past and current structures, institutions and practice<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s116\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">the work of major political theorists<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s116\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">how people participate in the political process and elections in different contemporary contexts<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s116\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">skills needed to interpret, analyse and evaluate political sources and election data<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s116\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> ability to construct arguments and explanations which lead to in<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">formed and reasoned conclusions.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s69\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Higher<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Higher course has three broad curricular areas which are <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Political Theory<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">,<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Political Structures and Political Parties and Elections.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s69\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Entry Requirements<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">This course is suited to pupils who have passe<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">d a <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> social subject in S5 or Higher English. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pupils will find the course builds upon the skills they have acquired in the faculty of Social Studies and RME<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">. The Politics course is particularly accessible for those with Modern <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Studies <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">,<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">History <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">and RMPS <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Highers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s69\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Higher exam consists of a 1h 30m assignment <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">and two exam papers. Paper 1 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">(1h 45m) <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">essay based<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> and Paper 2 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">(1h 15m) <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Skills based.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s69\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Progression<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Many employers and universities regard a qualification <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher Politics <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">as particularly valuable.
