Our Vision
At Knightswood Secondary School, learning and teaching sit at the heart of everything we do.
Our motto — Learning Together, Working Together, Succeeding Together — shapes our ethos, relationships, and high expectations for every young person.
Succeeding with Seven
Our Learning and Teaching approach is built around seven key areas developed through staff and pupil consultation:
Welcome & Ethos – Creating nurturing, inclusive, and respectful classrooms.
Planning – Well-structured lessons that build on prior learning and connect to real life.
Learning Intentions & Success Criteria – Clear, pupil-friendly goals shared and revisited throughout lessons.
Differentiation – Support and challenge for all learners, recognising individual needs and strengths.
Digital Learning – Effective, safe, and creative use of iPads and core digital tools to enhance learning.
Assessment – Meaningful feedback and learner conversations that move learning forward.
Quality Assurance – Ongoing reflection, collaboration, and sharing of good practice across departments.
Our Ethos
- Mutual respect and positive relationships underpin every classroom.
- Inclusion means every learner feels seen, heard, and supported.
- Family learning and community connections are valued and encouraged.
- Teachers model enthusiasm, fairness, and consistency to help every pupil thrive.
Learning Intentions & Success Criteria
- Learning intentions begin with to know, to understand, or to be able to…
- They focus on knowledge and skills, not just tasks.
- Success criteria are co-created, visible, and revisited so pupils can evaluate their progress.
Digital Learning
Our Striving for Seven digital strategy promotes purposeful use of technology through apps such as Teams, OneNote, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Satchel One, Quizlet, BBC Bitesize, and Book Creator.
Pupils are supported to use iPads responsibly, creatively, and independently to enhance collaboration and access learning.
Assessment & Feedback
- Feedback is specific, honest, and supportive.
- Learning conversations identify next steps and celebrate progress.
- Assessments are clear, well-prepared, and inclusive of all learners.
- Progress is tracked and discussed to help every pupil succeed.
Meeting Learners’ Needs
We plan carefully for pupils with additional support needs, English as an Additional Language, or attendance barriers — ensuring accessible resources, translated materials, differentiated tasks, and nurturing approaches that allow everyone to participate and achieve.
Commitment to Excellence
We continually reflect on our practice through collaborative planning, peer observation, and pupil voice.
By working together, we aim to deliver consistently high-quality learning and teaching experiences that build confidence, raise attainment, and prepare every young person for life beyond school.
