{"id":57,"date":"2017-10-09T15:01:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T15:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/ibrox\/?page_id=57"},"modified":"2024-11-06T12:27:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T12:27:33","slug":"literacy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/ibrox\/literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Literacy is the responsibility of all; therefore we commit to making the most of Literacy learning opportunities, including Literacy across Learning.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0Ibrox we encourage our\u00a0pupils to;<\/p>\n<p><em>engage with and create a broad range of texts, including Scottish and Scots texts,\u00a0use reading and listening\u00a0strategies to understand, analyse and evaluate texts; find and use information,\u00a0develop critical literacy skills, including evaluating sources;\u00a0write with increasing accuracy, making effective use of spelling, grammar and punctuation;\u00a0create texts of increasing complexity using more sophisticated language and\u00a0develop and use higher\u2010order thinking skills.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our school is part of the Glasgow Improvement Challenge and we have focused on the following areas<\/p>\n<p>2015-16 Phonological Awareness<\/p>\n<p>2016-17 Reading Comprehension Strategies<\/p>\n<p>2017-18 Developing an Equitable Literacy Curriculum (in partnership with Professor Sue Ellis and Strathclyde University<\/p>\n<p>2018-19 Writing<\/p>\n<p>2019-20 Listening and Talking, addressing the Vocabulary Gap<\/p>\n<p>In session 2023-24 we introduced Read, Write, Inc across P1-P5. This is used to support children with their phonic development and reading skills. RWI is taught in groups which are formed after children are assessed. Children move to work in their RWI group on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fridays between 10:50 and 11:45am.
