Mass and Weight<\/h6>\n

Mass is measured in kilograms (kg). It is a measure of the amount of matter making up an object. The mass of an object does not change<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Weight is measured in Newtons (N). It is the force on an object exerted by gravity. Weight will change<\/span> depending on the gravitational field strength,g.<\/p>\n

e.g. On the earth\u2019s surface g = 10 N\/kg<\/p>\n

On the moon g = 1.6 N\/kg<\/p>\n

The gravitational field strength is the force acting on each kilogram<\/strong> in a gravitational field. <\/p>\n

The acceleration due to gravity near the earth\u2019s surface is the same for all objects regardless of their mass (assuming air resistance is ignored):<\/p>\n

As objects move further from the earth\u2019s surface, gravity will decrease:<\/p>\n
