Revise Elements & Compounds ELEMENT An element is substance which contains only one type of atom. There are around 100 or so elements, and they are listed in the Periodic Table. COMPOUND OF TWO ELEMENTS Any substance which contains more than one type of atom is called compound. The atoms must be chemically combined in the substance. MIXTURE OF ELEMENTs If a material contains more than one type of atom, but they are not chemically combined, this called a mixture. A key difference between a mixture and a compound is that the substances in a mixture can be separated by for example filtration.
