| Any substance which contains more than one type of atom is called compound.
The atoms must be chemically combined in the substance. |

| MIXTURE OF ELEMENTs | |
| If a material contains more than one type of atom, but they are not chemically combined, this called a mixture.
A key difference between a mixture and a compound is that the substances in a mixture can be separated by for example filtration. |
