Art & Design is an exciting department filled with\u00a0lots of fun\u00a0opportunities!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For all pupils\u00a0we focus on three main\u00a0areas:\u00a0Expressive Art (paintings and drawings), Design (Fashion, Jewellery, Graphic, Interior, Textile etc.) and Critical (written studies analysing others work).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Art & Design\u00a0pupils\u00a0will have the opportunity to experiment with lots of different materials and techniques:\u00a0Painting, oil pastel,\u00a0soft pastel, charcoal,\u00a0printmaking, paper collage, papier\u00a0mache, paper construction…just to name a few!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

For BGE\u00a0pupils\u00a0(S1-3) we focus lessons and units of work\u00a0around building pupils understanding of the Visual Elements (Line, Tone, Pattern, Shape, Form, Texture and Colour) so that they have a solid understanding of this moving into S4-6.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n

During S4-6 pupils\u00a0can\u00a0study\u00a0National\u00a03, 4, 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Art & Design.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a department we feel passionately about the importance of Art & Design, after all EVERYTHING\u00a0must\u00a0be designed by\u00a0someone,\u00a0from the shoes on your\u00a0feet to the toaster in the kitchen, from your favourite piece of clothing to the device that you are reading this on! <\/span><\/p>\n

Then there are the health benefits of Art & Design, both physical and mental.\u00a0\u00a0Using tools like paint brushes, sewing needles and lino cutters can build up dexterity skills, ideal if you want to be a\u00a0Surgeon\u00a0or Vet.\u00a0<\/span>Creating art can help you acknowledge and recognize feelings that have been lurking in your subconscious. The\u00a0creative\u00a0process\u00a0can\u00a0give you a feeling of self-accomplishment which can be very valuable to improve your self-appreciation and confidence.\u00a0Being\u00a0<\/span>c<\/span>reative\u00a0produces dopamine, which makes people feel good, increases drive, and improves concentration. When you finish a creative project, you feel a boost of dopamine that gives you a sense of accomplishment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Careers:<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are many careers that\u00a0relate to Art & Design, such as,\u00a0Graphic Designer,\u00a0Art Critic,\u00a0Architect, Fashion Designer, Textile Designer, Art Teacher, Artist,\u00a0Animator, Art Gallery Curator,\u00a0Sculptor,\u00a0Illustrator,\u00a0Product Designer, Tattooist\u00a0and Photographer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also many careers that may not be so obvious but that do have a creative element that Art & Design will help with:<\/span><\/p>\n
