{"id":4963,"date":"2018-04-18T10:52:38","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T10:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/hillingtonprimary\/?page_id=4963"},"modified":"2023-08-21T13:32:38","modified_gmt":"2023-08-21T13:32:38","slug":"the-world-of-work-career-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/hillingtonprimary\/the-world-of-work-career-education\/","title":{"rendered":"The World of Work &#8211; Career Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is Career Education?<\/h2>\n<p>Career Education is &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>developing career management skills<\/li>\n<li>learning about the world of work<\/li>\n<li>an integral part of your child\u2019s learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are Career Management Skills?<\/h2>\n<p>Career Management Skills are gained when children and young people &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>learn about themselves, their interests, strengths and personal qualities<\/li>\n<li>gather knowledge gradually about the world of work<\/li>\n<li>find out about work sectors, enterprise and business<\/li>\n<li>understand how skills, both personal and practical, are used in the workplace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Career Management Skills enable young people to &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>make informed and confident choices about their next steps<\/li>\n<li>develop resilience when faced with challenges<\/li>\n<li>problem-solve and think strategically<\/li>\n<li>be successful career planners throughout their working lives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>At Hillington Primary we aim through contextualised learning, Enterprise\u00a0and\u00a0our World of Work focus week\u00a0to raise children\u2019s aspirations about the opportunities they have available to them in the world of work\u00a0in their local area and beyond whilst developing\u00a0innovative and creative skills.<\/h3>\n<h3>We aim to\u00a0develop an awareness of a variety of career choices, demonstrate the links between skills learned at school and success later in life, develop a deeper\u00a0understanding of why people earn and save money and\u00a0develop a sense of responsibility and skills for co-operation, enterprise and problem solving.<\/h3>\n<h3>Our World of Work week this year will take place in March. Every class from P1-P7 will be involved. They will be involved in a range of exciting lessons and visitors coming to talk about their chosen professions.
