Curriculum for Excellence:\u00a0Bringing learning to life and life to learning<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Curriculum for Excellence<\/em>\u00a0has now been introduced across Scotland for all 3-18 year olds \u2013 wherever they learn.\u00a0 It aims to raise standards, prepare our children for a future they do not yet know and equip them for jobs of tomorrow in a fast changing world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Curriculum for Excellence\u00a0<\/em>enables professionals to teach subjects creatively, to work together across the school and with other schools, to share best practice and explore learning together.\u00a0 Glow, Scotland\u2019s unique, world-leading, online network supports learners and teachers in this and plans are already in place for parents\/carers across the country to have access to Glow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Teachers and practitioners will share information to plan a child\u2019s \u201clearning journey\u201d from 3-18, helping their progression from nursery to primary, primary to secondary and beyond, ensuring the change is smooth. \u00a0They will ensure children continue to work at a pace they can cope with and with challenge they can thrive on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Curriculum for Excellence<\/em>\u00a0balances the importance of knowledge and skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every child is entitled to a broad and deep general education, whatever their level and ability.\u00a0 Every single teacher and practitioner will be responsible for literacy and numeracy \u2013 the language and numbers skills that unlock other subjects and are vital to everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n

It develops skills for learning; life and work to help young people go on to further study, secure work and navigate life.\u00a0 It brings real life into the classroom, making learning relevant and helps young people apply lessons to their life beyond the classroom.\u00a0 It links knowledge in one subject area to another helping children understand the world and make connections.<\/span><\/p>\n

It develops skills so that children can think for themselves, make sound judgements, challenge, enquire and find solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The curriculum aims to build learners as Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors, Confident Individuals, and Successful Learners. This is achieved through a skills and knowledge-based curriculum, consisting of the following curricular areas;<\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy and Language – Numeracy and Mathematics – Health and Well-being – Social Studies – Expressive Arts – Science – Technologies – Religious and Moral Education –<\/span><\/p>\n
