Mobility team support visually impaired pupils from pre-school to secondary stage and with college transitions, in educational establishments across Glasgow and in their home locale. They support these pupils in all aspects of independent travel and life skills.
Mobility education specialists will offer development and training in all aspects of mobility education to class or whole staff groups as requested. Training may take the form of a general understanding of mobility issues, or may be focused on how to support a particular pupil or group of pupils with VI in the school/class.
Following referral, mobility staff will assess pupils and will, in collaboration with the school, plan and deliver a suitable programme of support for that pupil which promotes full inclusion in the mainstream setting
This may involve a range of strategies/methods, such as:
– advice and guidance on suitable mobility aids
– advice regarding the establishment of routes to aid independent travel
– adaptations to the visual environment within the classroom, the school
building and the surrounding area
– adaptations to the visual environment within the home and local area
