At the primary stage we lay down the foundations for self help and independence skills as well as appropriate methods of language and communication. This may be pre-Braille, pre-Moon skills or augmentative methods of communication using assistive technology for those with no verbal communication.

All individual and group learning outcomes link with experiences and outcomes as detailed in the Curriculum for Excellence. All learning and teaching activities promote the development of the four capacities for the Curriculum for Excellence.
