Primary 1 December Update

This month Primary 1 have been continuing to learn their Jolly Phonics Sounds and securing their knowledge. We have been looking at the beginning, middle and end of fairytales and predicting what happens next. We have been using these fairytales to created character descriptions such as the gingerbread man and little red riding hood. Using colour, number, size and texture to describe them.

In Maths we have continued with adding and subtracting within 10 using strategies such as part-part whole and using a number line. We have also looked at capacity using a water tray and measuring jugs, cups and jars.

Children have been learning about the Nativity through R.E. They have been able to order and explain the events within the Nativity. They also took part in the Nativity show, doing a fantastic job performing.

Primary 2/1 December Update

This month in our Literacy we have been continuing to progress our way through the Jolly Phonics initial sounds programme. This month we learned ‘r’, ‘m’ and ‘d’. Primary 2’s have continued learning the phonemes and this month we have learned the ‘ar’ phoneme. We have continued to explore a variety of traditional fairytales and have been using these to sequence a story and retell the beginning, middle and end of a story. During our writing we have been exploring the description bubble and have been using this to begin to describe the characters from traditional fairytales.

This month in our Numeracy we have been learning to use a number line to help us add and subtract. Within maths, we have continued to explore measure using non-standard units. We have investigated weight and capacity.

This month we have worked hard on our Nativity show that we performed to our parents. We had great fun learning our roles and performing the songs. We also explored the Christmas story and used this to sequence the main parts of the story.

Primary 5/6 December Update

Another busy month for Primary 5/6. We have been applying our multiplication strategies to solve word problems, creating fantastic pieces of art inspired by artist Paul Klee and working hard on our research skills.

We have been using our research skills to learn about WW2 and endangered animals. We then use our research and created information reports to share our knowledge. We have been working so hard and cannot wait for the Christmas Break.

Primary 5/4 December Update

Primary 5/4 were lucky enough to have an extra teacher with them this month. Mrs Wilson has been teaching lots of fantastic french lessons, as well as music lessons based on pitch and tone.

Miss Love has spent a lot of December out with our school choir but has still managed to do lots of fantastic learning. We have been developing our writing skills, focusing on fantasy stories. We have also been focusing on column addition in Numeracy.

Primary 6 December Update

December has been full of festive fun and hard work for Primary 6. We have been working hard alongside Primary 1 planning, practising and performing our school Nativity. There was lots of hard work on stage and behind the scenes to get everything ready. We hope it was an enjoyable performance- we certainly had fun!

Alongside our Nativity we still manage to squeeze in lots of hard work. We have been learning about fractions and using out STEM knowledge to create traps for our elves.

P6 also enjoyed their boxing sessions with our coaches. These were lots of fun.

Primary 7 December Update

December has been another busy month for Primary 7.

We had lots of opportunities to apply our numeracy skills when learning about money. We learned how to work within a budget to; plan a weekly shop, shop for a Christmas meal and budget for Christmas gifts. We also learned about profit and loss and the importance of this when creating, buying and selling products. We use our learning to plan, create and price our Christmas item for the Fayre and then as create our own imaginary Christmas Business/Event.

We have continued with our descriptive writing whiles getting in the festive spirit and using our skills to describe winter scenes, festive decorations and much more.

There have been lots of opportunities for us to be creative and show our skills. We have been busy building in our STEM area as well as using our coding skills with Spheros and Lego kits.

A busy month for Primary 7 who are now ready for a well earned rest!

Primary 3/2 December Update

Throughout December, P3/2 children have enjoyed a busy and festive period of learning.

They developed recount writing skills by writing about their Christmas party and took part in a range of Christmas craft activities, including decorating handmade clay baubles.

Children also engaged in imaginative play through a Post Office role-play area, developing communication, teamwork, and real-life literacy skills such as writing letters and using money.

In RME, children learned about the Nativity story using KWL charts, sequencing and matching activities, colouring for display, and watching a Nativity video to deepen understanding.

Overall, it has been a creative, engaging, and enjoyable term of learning.

This month in numeracy, we have completed our multiples, factors and prime numbers topic. We are now moving onto fractions, decimals and percentages where we will be exploring their relationship and how this knowledge can help us in the real world.

In maths, we have been learning about shape, symmetry and angles, extending and challenging our current understanding.

P6 have been enjoying our animal’s topic, where we have been learning about different animal habitats and adaptations. We were able to apply our learning during our visit to Edinburgh Zoo this month!

At our assembly this morning, we were learning about the great work that Children in Need do for so many children across the country.
