Primary 2/1 November Update

In Literacy we have been continuing to progress through the Jolly Phonics initial sounds programme. So far we have learned; s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, and h. Primary 2’s have started learning the phonemes; sh, ch, th, ng, and qu. We have also been exploring a variety of traditional fairy tales and have been using these to create our own story maps that we can use to retell the main events of a story. During our grammar lessons we have been learning to build a sentence. We know that sentences need a capital letter and a full stop.

In Numeracy we have been learning to use concrete materials to add and subtract. In Mathematics we have been exploring measure using non-standard units. We have used traditional fairy tales to investigate the size of familiar objects from the story and were able to order objects by size.

Within Health and Well-being this month we have been progressing through the RSHP programme. We have been learning about the correct names for different body parts. We have learned the importance of the private parts in our body being kept private and showing an understanding of what this means. We read the story ‘ Aliens love Underpants’ and used this as inspiration to design our own underpants!
