Gaelic Medium Education

Gaelic Education at Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Bhaile a’ Ghobhainn

At Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Bhaile a’ Ghobhainn, we are proud to deliver Gaelic Medium Education (GME), where children learn through the Gaelic language across the curriculum. This immersive approach supports enriches pupils’ cognitive, cultural and linguistic development.

Our curriculum follows Curriculum for Excellence, and we are committed to:

  • Providing high-quality learning experiences through the medium of Gaelic.

  • Developing learners’ skills in listening, talking, reading and writing in Gaelic and English.

  • Promoting Gaelic language and culture across all areas of learning.

  • Ensuring progression and continuity in Gaelic learning, from early years to upper primary.

In line with national guidance from Education Scotland’s Advice on Gaelic Education (2019), we follow an immersion phase from Primary 1 to Primary 3, where pupils are taught entirely through Gaelic. This allows them to build a strong foundation in the language. English literacy is gradually introduced from Primary 4 onwards, with continued development of both languages as pupils progress.

We aim to create confident learners who can thrive in both Gaelic and English, and who develop a strong sense of identity and connection to Scotland’s language and culture.
