1. Music is like speech – leave gaps. This will create phrases.<\/p>\n
2. Know the melody of the tune you are playing.<\/p>\n
3. If you need inspiration creating a rhythm, think of\u00a0a few\u00a0words and use the rhythm implied by saying those words …<\/p>\n
4. Create a “shape” for your solo – start off with simpler ideas and ‘build’ the solo by creating tension … eg. faster or more complicated rhythms and\/or higher pitches\u00a0 and\/or more ‘outside’ (weirder) sounding note choices.<\/p>\n
5. There are no wrong<\/em> notes – learn to make the weirder sounding notes sound like you mean it!
