Celebrating Outstanding Talent at the 2026 Scottish Young Musicians Glasgow Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over two inspiring days of music-making, young performers from across the city showcased exceptional skill, dedication and artistry at the Glasgow heat of the Scottish Young Musicians Competition 2026<\/strong>. The standard this year was truly outstanding, with performers demonstrating remarkable musical maturity, confidence and expressive depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Primary Competition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We were delighted to begin with our Primary Competition<\/strong>, where young musicians impressed both audience and adjudicators alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfc6 Primary Winner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eason Wei (P4)<\/strong> from St Patrick\u2019s Primary School delivered a poised and beautifully musical performance of Concertino in G Major<\/em> by Mozart on violin, showing remarkable control and expressive understanding well beyond his years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Beth McAlaney (P7)<\/strong>\u00a0from Govan Gaelic Primary School captivated listeners with a lively performance of the jig\u00a0Only for Barney<\/em>\u00a0followed by the Liz Carroll reel\u00a0Sevens<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ben Streete (P7)<\/strong>\u00a0from Pollokshields Primary School impressed with a confident and characterful rendition of\u00a0Gypsy Songs<\/em>\u00a0by J\u00f3zsef Balogh on saxophone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Secondary Instrumental Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Secondary Instrumental Competition continued the exceptionally high standard of performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83c\udfc6 Instrumental Winner & Overall Glasgow Schools\u2019 Young Musician 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Cheryl Xu (S6)<\/strong> from Hyndland Secondary School delivered a deeply expressive performance of Faur\u00e9\u2019s \u00c9l\u00e9gie<\/em> on cello. Cheryl was subsequently named overall winner of Glasgow Schools\u2019 Young Musician 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83d\udc4f Instrumental Runner Up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ruslan Pankov (S6)<\/strong> from King\u2019s Park Secondary School impressed with a technically assured performance of \u00c9tude No. 24, Op. 60<\/em> by Matteo Carcassi on classical guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Secondary Vocal Competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Secondary Vocal Competition brought the event to a thrilling conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ruby Kerr (S5)<\/strong> from St Andrew\u2019s Secondary School performed Heart of Stone<\/em> from SIX: The Musical<\/em> (Toby Marlow & Lucy Moss) with powerful stage presence and vocal control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83d\udc4f Vocal Runner Up<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Finlay Morrison (S6)<\/strong> from Ard-sgoil Gh\u00e0idhlig Ghlaschu delighted the audience with an energetic and engaging set of traditional Puirt-a-beul<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Looking Ahead<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    As overall winner, Cheryl Xu<\/strong> will now represent Glasgow at the Scottish Young Musicians National Final<\/strong>, taking place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Sunday 24 May 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
