{"id":5480,"date":"2025-10-15T11:47:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T10:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/glasgowcreate\/?p=5480"},"modified":"2025-11-06T11:50:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T11:50:12","slug":"barga-scotland-festival-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/glasgowcreate\/barga-scotland-festival-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Barga Scotland Festival 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Young Glasgow Musicians Perform in Barga, Italy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five talented young musicians from&nbsp;<strong>Glasgow CREATE<\/strong>&nbsp;have returned from an unforgettable visit to&nbsp;<strong>Barga, Italy<\/strong>, where they represented the city at the&nbsp;<strong>Barga Scotland Festival 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group travelled to the Tuscan town last month alongside&nbsp;<strong>Glasgow\u2019s Lord Provost, Cllr Jacqueline McLaren<\/strong>, performing in the stunning&nbsp;<strong>Teatro dei Differenti<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 a jewel of Barga\u2019s cultural life often described as a \u201cmini La Scala\u201d after the world-famous opera house in Milan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The CREATE Strings Ensemble<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Nellie Heinrich<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Violin, S5, Shawlands Academy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nikita Bubulchuk<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Violin, S6, St Andrew\u2019s Secondary School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hannah Easdale<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Violin, S5, St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aria Connolly<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Viola, S3, Bannerman High School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ava Griffith<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Bass, S6, Shawlands Academy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Chosen for their dedication and musical excellence, the young ensemble performed alongside celebrated local musicians including&nbsp;<strong>William Moriconi<\/strong>, a former Scottish Chamber Orchestra oboist, originally from Barga and now based in Glasgow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to their performance, the group immersed themselves in Barga\u2019s warm community and culture \u2014 shopping locally, cooking meals together, and rehearsing in a sunlit courtyard near their accommodation, which was kindly gifted by local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI feel very lucky to have visited such a beautiful town that I\u2019d probably never have visited otherwise; I\u2019d love to go back!\u201d<\/p>\n<cite><em>Nikita, Violin<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe concert was so lovely, with the Scottish music and great reception, it almost felt like we were performing to a home crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite><em>Ava, Bass<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Provost, who attended the Festival as a guest of honour, also took part in several civic engagements during the weekend, including a meeting with Barga\u2019s Mayor where a&nbsp;<strong>Barga-Glasgow tartan<\/strong>&nbsp;was unveiled as a symbol of friendship between the two cities. The tartan was designed by&nbsp;<strong>Michael Lemetti of Clan Italia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWatching these young Glaswegian musicians perform with such grace and confidence was deeply moving. Their talent and enthusiasm are a credit to our city. They did Glasgow proud. In the future I look forward to being able to create more opportunities for our young people as part of this special friendship with Barga.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite><em>Cllr Jacqueline McLaren, Lord Provost of Glasgow<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Trip coordinator&nbsp;<strong>Pamela Black<\/strong>, Education Support Officer with CREATE, reflected on the impact of the visit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe CREATE programme is about opening doors for young people. This trip to Barga was unforgettable, an opportunity to perform internationally, build friendships, and experience a new culture.
