{"id":5650,"date":"2025-03-17T16:22:19","date_gmt":"2025-03-17T16:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/?p=5650"},"modified":"2025-05-01T09:59:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-01T09:59:07","slug":"empowering-young-voices-the-youth-for-equity-library-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/2025\/03\/17\/empowering-young-voices-the-youth-for-equity-library-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowering Young Voices: The &#8220;Youth for Equity&#8221; Library Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5737 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2025\/04\/01092624\/Youth-for-equity-poster-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"291\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">\n<p data-start=\"75\" data-end=\"260\">This year, four school libraries (Drumchapel High school library, Hillhead High school library, Rosshall Academy library and St Mungo\u2019s Academy library) are taking part in an inspiring initiative called &#8220;Youth for Equity,&#8221; a project funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council (<a href=\"https:\/\/scottishlibraries.org\/\">SLIC<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"262\" data-end=\"692\">The project brings together focus groups of S1-S2 students from each participating school for three interactive sessions centered around critical social issues: LGBTQ+ rights, homelessness, and racism. With the support of three incredible charities\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/tie.scot\/\">TIE<\/a> (Time for Inclusive Education), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonscotland.org\/\">Simon Community<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/theblackcurriculum.com\/\">The Black Curriculum<\/a>\u2014students are given a platform to explore these topics through discussion, writing, and creative expression.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"749\"><strong data-start=\"698\" data-end=\"747\">Project launch at Drumchapel High School Library<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"917\">The first session took place on March 12th at Drumchapel High School Library, where students had the opportunity to attend a session with TIE and South Asian actor, playwright and comedian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weareherescotland.com\/spotlight\/sanjay-lago\">Sanjay Lago<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"1215\">Sanjay shared his powerful poetry and personal experiences, encouraging students to embrace the strength of their diverse voices.
