Pupils suggested created themed book lists relating to some of the 54 articles in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/what-we-do\/un-convention-child-rights\/\">UN Convention of the Rights of the Child<\/a> and will also be spearheading a reading suggestions wall of rights themed books.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glasgow 850 Challenge<\/strong>: 2025 marks Glasgow&#8217;s 850th birthday and to celebrate we&#8217;ve launched our Glasgow 850 Challenge, packed with Glasgow themed literacy activities including word jumbles, quizzes, match games, and fill-ins. Completion of each &#8216;mini-challenge&#8217; earns an entry into a prize draw at the end of the school year. Our Glasgow -themed BGE and Senior book list is also available on the School Library Teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s Your Power Art Competition:<\/strong> Glasgow School Libraries are running an art competition for a chance to win the Hedgewitch trilogy by Skye McKenna. Participants are to draw their magical power and include a brief description of the power and why they\u2019ve chosen it. Each entry will be featured in the Spring issue of Swatch, the Glasgow School Libraries eMagazine. Deadline Friday 14<sup>th<\/sup> February.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Read Your Way Creative Writing Competition<\/strong>: As part of our upcoming World Book Day festivities, we\u2019ll be hosting our next seasonal creative writing competition on the theme \u2018Read Your Way\u2019. Participants have the freedom to write whatever inspires them in any creative format they enjoy. King was the chief spokesperson for\u00a0nonviolent\u00a0activism in the\u00a0Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hmd.org.uk\/\">International Holocaust Remembrance Day<\/a> (27<sup>th<\/sup> January) The\u00a0<strong>International Holocaust Remembrance Day<\/strong> commemorates\u00a0the victims\u00a0of the\u00a0Holocaust, which resulted in the\u00a0genocide\u00a0of one third of the\u00a0Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities by\u00a0Nazi Germany\u00a0between 1933 and 1945. It also commemorates recent genocides recognised by the UK government, and the genocide in Darfur. 27 January was chosen to commemorate the date when the\u00a0Auschwitz concentration camp\u00a0was liberated\u00a0by the\u00a0Red Army\u00a0in 1945.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_Religion_Day\">World Religions Day<\/a> (19<sup>th<\/sup> January): World Religion Day\u00a0is an observance that was initiated in 1950 by the\u00a0National Spiritual Assembly\u00a0of the\u00a0Bah\u00e1\u02bc\u00eds of the United States, which is celebrated worldwide on the third Sunday in January each year. Though initiated in the United States, World Religion Day has come to be celebrated internationally by followers of the\u00a0Bah\u00e1\u02bc\u00ed Faith.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rspb.org.uk\/whats-happening\/big-garden-birdwatch\">RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch<\/a> (24<sup>th<\/sup>-26<sup>th<\/sup> January): Big Garden Birdwatch is the UK&#8217;s biggest citizen science wildlife survey. By taking part, you can help the RSPB understand how garden birds are doing right now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burns_supper\">Burns Night<\/a> (25<sup>th <\/sup>January): A\u00a0Burns supper\u00a0is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet\u00a0Robert Burns the author of many\u00a0Scots\u00a0poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet&#8217;s birthday, 25 January, known as\u00a0Burns Night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chinese_New_Year\">Chinese Lunar New Year<\/a> (29<sup>th<\/sup> January): Chinese New Year, or the\u00a0Spring Festival\u00a0is a festival that celebrates the beginning of a\u00a0new year\u00a0on the traditional\u00a0lunisolar\u00a0Chinese calendar. Marking the end of\u00a0winter\u00a0and the beginning of\u00a0spring, this festival takes place from\u00a0Chinese New Year&#8217;s Eve\u00a0(the evening preceding the first day of the year) to the\u00a0Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year.
