{"id":5083,"date":"2024-10-26T22:26:28","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T22:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/?p=5083"},"modified":"2024-10-28T16:31:34","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T16:31:34","slug":"october-holyrood-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/2024\/10\/26\/october-holyrood-library\/","title":{"rendered":"October @ Holyrood Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve had a busy month so far, with plenty to celebrate in the Library.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5084 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2024\/10\/26204953\/IMG_4107Display.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">October is <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Black History Month, <\/strong>so our<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> S3 Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers -Tafsirr, Rand and Lauren created this fantastic book\u00a0 display.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They wanted to highlight books that were joyful and celebratory, so included biographies of famous actors, sportspeople, scientists, musicians and World leaders. Mrs Cooper&#8217;s <strong>Higher ESOL class<\/strong> asked for a selection of books by black authors for the classroom. Here are some of the authors they are currently enjoying: Malorie Blackman, Jumata Emill, Sharon Flake, Danielle Jawando, Shade Lapite, Jason Reynolds, Efua Traore, Alex Wheatle.<\/p>\n<p>And we often like to discuss favourite authors and poets in our library Teams chat. We thought these words were very inspiring: <em>&#8220;My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive: and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style&#8221;. <strong>Maya Angelou<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>At the start of October, we also celebrated <strong>Dyslexia Awareness Week <\/strong>with a pupil-led outreach library in the Fuel zone.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5093 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2024\/10\/26221110\/IMG_4074MrL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"485\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This showcased the books we have available in a dyslexia friendly format; and Mr. Lang provided a Quiz about famous people.\u00a0 We also had a Design Your Own Superpower competition, to show that all skills and talents are valued, such as super strength, invisibility, telekinesis, talking to animals, being kind, helping one another, and putting your rubbish in the bin.
