What’s happening in St Roch’s library as we reach the end of another school year<\/h4>\n

Empathy Day<\/span><\/h2>\n

Taking place in June every year, Empathy Day<\/a> celebrates and grows empathy’s power to create a better world. It shines a light on books’ role in raising an empathy-educated generation. through stories, and to put empathy into action!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year we marked empathy day with an Empathy Bookshelf display and\u00a0 Empathy Reads noticeboard. The library volunteers did a wonderful job on their corridor display. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms<\/span> Wood\u2019s S2 class also joined in an Empathy Day activity session. <\/span>We listened to <\/span>\u2018The piano at the station\u2019 a story by Helen Rutter from the empathy shorts collection<\/a>.<\/span> We <\/span>then <\/span>spoke in groups about the story, using conver<\/span>sation prompts<\/span> then helped us think about the experience and emotions of characters<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> Afterwards we broke out the art supplies and created <\/span>colourful<\/span> emotion maps<\/span>, describing<\/span>\u00a0our own feelings from the day or <\/span>imagining what the characters <\/span>were feeling in the story. <\/span>There are lots of great activities and samples in the annual Empathy Day resource pack<\/span> and on their website including <\/span>a great selection<\/span> of short stories from fantastic authors.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
