We have some exciting events and activities lined up this year at Shawlands Academy.<\/p>\n
February<\/strong>: A special drop-in surgery from our newly elected MSYP from LGBT Youth Scotland during LGBT+ History Month. We will announce the winning design from our School Library Mascot Design competition voted by pupils. We will also share booklists for LGBT History Month<\/a> and Children\u2019s Mental Health Week<\/a> (5th<\/sup>-11th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n March<\/strong>: We will organize some fun activities as part of World Book Day<\/a> week (4th<\/sup>-8th<\/sup>), including a quiz, a 5-word Book Review competition, and a Bookmark Design Competition. The winning design will be the official School Library bookmark for 2024. As part of Shakespeare Week<\/a> (18th<\/sup>-24th<\/sup>) we\u2019ll post an interactive choice board linked to information about Shakespeare and his works. We\u2019ll also host a lunchtime Shakespeare or YA quiz where participants will guess whether the quote is from one of Shakespeare\u2019s works or a popular YA novel. We will also share booklists for International Women\u2019s Day<\/a> (8th<\/sup>), Ramadan<\/a> (starting 10th<\/sup>), British Science Week<\/a> (8th<\/sup>-17th<\/sup>), Neurodiversity Celebration Week<\/a> (18th<\/sup>-24th<\/sup>), Anti-Racism Day<\/a> (21st<\/sup>) and International Transgender Visibility Day<\/a> (31st<\/sup>).<\/p>\n April<\/strong>: For World Book Night<\/a> (23rd<\/sup>), we will host a special \u2018Biblio Bistro\u2019 during lunchtime where pupils can \u2018sample\u2019 a variety of books from our book menu. We will host a 50-word short story competition to tie in with National Tell a Story Day (27th<\/sup>) and a fun activity to celebrate Talk Like Shakespeare Day<\/a> (23rd<\/sup>). We will also share booklists for Stress Awareness Month, World Autism Day<\/a> (2nd<\/sup>), and Earth Day<\/a> (22nd<\/sup>).<\/p>\n May<\/strong>: During the exam period, the School Librarian will visit all S1-3 classes to give pupils a list of books on loan as part of a major drive to return stock. We will also host a an\u00a0Edgar Allan Poe or YA quiz for World Goth Day (22nd<\/sup>) and an accompanying booklist.<\/p>\n June<\/strong>: We will show some livestream author events as part of the annual Empathy Day<\/a> (6th<\/sup>) celebrations. The library will host a Reading Picnic as part of National Picnic Week<\/a> (17th<\/sup>-25th<\/sup>).
