{"id":1588,"date":"2021-11-10T11:58:52","date_gmt":"2021-11-10T11:58:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/?p=1588"},"modified":"2021-12-06T09:38:16","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T09:38:16","slug":"jpa-library-october-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/gccschoollibraries\/2021\/11\/10\/jpa-library-october-update\/","title":{"rendered":"JPA Library &#8211; October Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello again from the John Paul Academy Library!<\/p>\n<p>In October, we were delighted to receive our prize from the Penguin Books Lit In Colour Book Giveaway!\u00a0 The library has received an incredible donation of over 100 books written by authors of colour to help diversify our collection and inspire our pupils and staff.\u00a0 These books are now on display i<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">n the library and av<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">ailable for our staff and pupils to borrow.\u00a0 Pupils have already started borrowing some of the YA fiction, and Michelle Obama&#8217;s biography has been incredibly popular!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1589\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2021\/11\/10115310\/Lit-In-Colour-Display-Image-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"198\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1590\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2021\/11\/10115311\/Lit-In-Colour-Display-Image-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1591 alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 0.857143rem;margin-bottom: 0.857143rem;margin-left: 1.71429rem\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/gccschoollibraries\/uploads\/sites\/10968\/2021\/11\/10115446\/Hilda-and-the-Troll-Poster.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"228\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our comic club<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0have been talking about all their favourite graphic novels and man<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">ga, and have made posters to advertise their favourites to the rest of the school.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s one for Hilda and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">the Troll, which was bought for the library after our shopping session in Septembe<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">r.\u00a0 Since starting the club, our group has read over 20 books!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our S3 EAL Book Club has made some good progress with Project Cinderella.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve finished the classic Perrault version that inspired the Disney animated classic, and moved on to &#8216;The Cat Cinderella&#8217; by Giambattista Basile, considered to be the first written version of the story from Italy in 1634.\u00a0 This one is very different from the famous Disney version, as Cinderella commits a terrible crime to start, and then is faced with not 2 but 6 stepsisters!\u00a0 Our club members are definitely intrigued by the prospect of creating a villainous Cinderella story&#8230; [This project is supported by the Scottish Government School Library Improvement Fund].<\/p>\n<p>In November we have Book Week Scotland to look forward to, which will involve displays, a &#8216;Wee Story&#8217; competition, games and more!\u00a0 For this and everything else coming in November, check out the latest edition of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flipbookpdf.net\/web\/site\/19a6f90d61d86c57a6acb10a1249b27e598248ec202111.pdf.html\"><em>Bookmarked<\/em><\/a>, our school library newsletter.<\/p>\n<p><em>Happy reading from Miss West<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello again from the John Paul Academy Library!
