Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour with Danielle Jawando - Scottish Book Trust

St. Mungo’s school library had the honor of hosting author Danielle Jawando as part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour, organized by the Scottish Book Trust.

S2 pupils enjoyed an inspiring presentation where Danielle shared her journey to becoming a writer. She guided them through the creative writing process, explored the sources of her inspiration, emphasized the importance of representing diverse stories and characters, and offered valuable insights into the journey of getting a book published. The pupils were captivated throughout, asking thoughtful and insightful questions that demonstrated their genuine interest.

The event concluded with a special opportunity for pupils to interact with Danielle personally creating a memorable and meaningful experience for all involved.

She even signed her library books!

Libraries LYT up lives: Graeme Armstrong @St Mungos

The “Libraries LYT up lives” program concluded with a remarkable visit from writer Graeme Armstrong to our school library on April 22nd. Armstrong shared powerful firsthand stories about overcoming gang culture, highlighting the transformative power of literature.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the presentation, students had the opportunity to engage directly with the writer and even borrow his book. Such was the demand that all copies of his books available in the library were swiftly taken, necessitating the creation of a waiting list. This clear demonstration of interest underscores the profound impact of his session on our S3 pupils.

They were captivated throughout, rating the event a resounding 10/10!

Last writer visit of the year at St Mungo’s library

Absolutely thrilled to wrap up the 2023 writer visit by welcoming the talented Maisie Chan to our school library!

During her visit at St Mungo’s library, she passionately discussed how deeply intertwined her stories are with her own life experiences. Not only that, but she also generously shared insights about her fascinating profession.

In her awe-inspiring novels, she fearlessly takes on the important and timely topics of othering, microaggressions, and racism.

Her novels serve as a rallying cry for empathy, understanding, and unity in a world that desperately needs it.
