Miss O’Neill, checking in! It’s Day 2 of working from home. The library is now a lot smaller than it used to be, physically, based as it is at my kitchen table (close to the food and coffee). But that doesn’t mean that you won’t have access to lots of resources and support while the main school library and your local community libraries are closed. You can download ebooks, music, audiobooks, magazines, resources to help you keep up with your studies, and much more, free of charge, with your library card. I’m working on making sure that every pupil has a library account ready to use; if you don’t know your library card number and/or PIN, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me through Glow. You can also leave a comment on this blog post and I will contact you as soon as possible. Here’s the link you need to find all the resources.
Official library opening hours (so to speak) are 9am to 4.30pm. During this time, I am available to answer all emails. You should also follow the library on Twitter and Instagram. If you are looking for book recommendations, don’t hesitate to get in touch – I’m working on creating lists of recommended books, and will also post book reviews here of what I’m reading, if I think that at least one pupil might enjoy it. I will also be suggesting other things you can do to keep busy and entertained, such as online board games, films, tv shows, and more. I don’t guarantee that there will be daily blog posts, but if any of you would like to write for the blog, I’ll post more on how we can do that tomorrow, and what kind of things you can write. I’m also going to post information, hopefully run sessions, on using Twine (a coding programme which lets you tell stories while learning to code). If you know the Choose Your Own Adventure stories, Twine is a good format for writing your own versions.
To all pupils already in the Role-Playing Games Club, I’m working on finding ways to play our games remotely for as long as is needed. You should all have received an invitation to the RPG Club Team on Glow, but if you haven’t got it, please let me know. Please also create an account on DND Beyond, if you haven’t already, so that I can set up campaigns for the different groups. If any other pupils are interested in learning how to play RPGs, I will post a call to sign up once the existing groups are up and running.
Most importantly, I hope you and your families/friends are all well and keeping safe during such a difficult time. While I feel it’s important to give you access to resources and activities to help keep you (and me!) busy and entertained, I also want to make you sure you all know that I am here to help you in any way I can, even if that’s just through talking nonsense; if you’ve spent much time in the library, you know I’m very good at nonsense and silliness. Keep yourselves healthy – physically, mentally, emotionally – and don’t be afraid to reach out to me or anyone in the Lourdes Secondary School community if you so wish. We’re all here for you, for each other, and hopefully we will be able to be back to school before too long.
