As a Gold rights-respecting school, we not only teach about children\u2019s rights in the classroom but model rights respecting language and attitudes in all of our relationships.<\/p>\r\n<p>\n\n\n\n<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"paragraph_7s1wgXt3bf-\">Every year, each class creates an agreed \u2018class charter\u2019. These are in addition to our whole school charter and playground charter. The project explored Scotland\u2019s connection with Nelson Mandela and supported pupils to feel empowered to take action on issues of importance to them today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Pupils explored the context of apartheid South Africa, the life of Nelson Mandela and the connections to the Scottish anti-apartheid movement. They used iPads to create short films and illustrations to share their thoughts and opinions on this important  topic. All lessons were linked to related&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/?menu=1300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/what-we-do\/un-convention-child-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">articles from the UNCRC<\/a><\/strong>, to help build learners real world understanding of these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">&#8216;Rights Info&#8217; filming to promote Children&#8217;s Rights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What do kids think about human rights?\" width=\"474\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gy_OU3WiQHg?start=3&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We worked with \u2018Rights Info\u2019 who were making a video all about Human Rights for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/EqualityHumanRights\">Equality and Human Rights Commission<\/a>. It explored Children\u2019s Rights in a child friendly way and has been used across Glasgow and Scotland to support rights learning in schools. The children chose a UNCRC Article which was important to them and explained why.
