In Scotland,\u00a0 the rights of children are enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights\u00a0 of the Child (UNCRC) and are now legally incorporated into Scots law. <\/span>This means that all areas of public life must be reviewed to ensure they respect, protect, and fulfil children’s rights, as stated in the UNCRC. <\/span>A key principle is ensuring that children’s views are heard and taken seriously, and that their best interests are prioritised in all matters affecting them.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In June 2025, Drummore achieved our Bronze Award: Rights Committed. This means that Drummore has made a commitment to the United Nations Rights of the Child and to our Rights Respecting School Journey.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, we have been working towards our Silver Award: Rights Aware. At Silver level, our school will be:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Teaching and Learning about rights: for the whole school community through training, curriculum, assemblies, topics, focus days\/weeks, displays.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Teaching and Learning through rights: by modelling rights respecting language and attitudes, and making strategic decisions that involve students.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Being ambassadors for the rights of others: developing as rights respecting citizens.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What does this look like in Drummore?<\/h1>\n

    We looked at our vision, values and aims. Iur five big rights we are focusing on as a school clearly align with our vision, values and aims.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Our \u201cRights Respecting Racoons\u201d are leading the way!<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    School staff and the children in Jura have identified 5 \u201cBig Rights\u201d which relate to our school values.<\/strong><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Each week in assembly the Raccoons are sharing the work children have been doing around the school to learn about our \u201cBig Right\u201d of the week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Children in Mull were learning about being good friends (Article 13: I have the right to meet with friends and join groups)<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Every class in Drummore has a raccoon mascot to help us learn about rights. We decided to uphold his right to an identity by giving him a name. The Rights Respecting Raccoons organised a competition to pick it \u2013 we voted for Skye class\u2019 entry: Rocky!<\/strong><\/p>\n
