{"id":2460,"date":"2024-10-09T14:36:37","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T13:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/drumchapel\/?page_id=2460"},"modified":"2024-10-09T14:36:38","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T13:36:38","slug":"english-as-an-additional-language","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/drumchapel\/english-as-an-additional-language\/","title":{"rendered":"ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At Drumchapel High we are proud to be a multi cultural multi faith school that embraces our diversity and&nbsp; positivity that comes from our learners and families who speak English as a second language.&nbsp; Infact,&nbsp; many of our learners are not only bilingual&nbsp; but speak many languages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Language acquisition goes through many stages in the journey to becoming fluent English speakers;&nbsp; New to English, Early Aquisition, Developing Competence and Fluent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our first priority with any learner is to allow them to settle into the school family and become comfortable with school&nbsp; routines and &nbsp;the Drumchapel Roar; Resilience, Opportunities, Achieving and Respect.&nbsp; After this settling period where learners are immersed in English within the school community we look to then assess their English Acquisition level.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This assessment has been designed for EAL staff&nbsp; to assess EAL pupils\u2019 basic English literacy and their basic level of literacy in their first language.
