Uniform

I am pleased to see almost all children wearing their school uniform this session and would like to thank parents for their support with this. If you have not done so already, please ensure that items of clothing, including jackets, are labelled with your child’s name to avoid loss. Clothing grants for school uniforms can be accessed online at www.glasgow.gov.uk as we are no longer provided with paper forms.

P.E.

P.E. often takes place outside. Please ensure your child has appropriate P.E. kit for indoor and outdoor P.E.

Homework

Homework will be issued in various formats, but most often, homework will be issued and completed via Seesaw.

Dropping off and Collecting Children

We continue with our soft start and end to the day with gates and doors open from 8.50am and again from 2.50pm.

School gate – Health and Safety

  • Pupils in classes P1 to P3 should be collected from the Coplaw Street gates.
  • Pupils in classes P4 to P7 should be collected from the Cuthbertson Street gate.
  • Parents must walk via Victoria Road to collect siblings.
  • Parents are not allowed in the playground at break times and lunch time, or before 3pm, and must not cut across the playground to collect children. This is to assist and ensure child safety and to allow the nursery safe access to the playground.
  • If collecting with a car, please park responsibly, do not obstruct traffic and ensure your child is escorted to the school gates.
  • No smoking/vaping at the school gates.

Parent Council

Please consider joining our small, friendly Parent Council group. We would love to have your support and views. If you would be interested, please contact me through the school office. Language barriers are not an issue as interpreters can be arranged. Mrs Haq’s children are no longer at Cuthbertson and she has resigned as Chair of the Parent Council. We thank her for her efforts to support the school. Mrs Safdar is the new Chair of the Parent Council.

Healthy Eating

Please support our healthy eating initiative by providing healthy snacks and lunches in regular size portions. No takeaways or items such as family size bags or crisps or packs of pastries are permitted. Please remember to provide your child with a water bottle.

Absence during term time

Please be aware that we cannot authorise or support term time travel as this has a negative impact on your child’s learning. Any travel arrangements made during term time will require supporting evidence, such as travel documents to be presented to the school office. We also require you to contact the school to arrange an appointment to complete school paperwork regarding any planned travel and have this approved by a member of the school management team. Due to school waiting lists in the area, extensive travel may result in your child being removed from the school roll. Please support your child by ensuring maximum attendance. Absence in term time leads to reduced attainment and may result in your child not achieving their expected academic levels.

Sickness

Please contact the school if your child is unwell and cannot attend school. School number is 0141 423 0452

Latecoming

Children arriving late at school leads to disruption of their learning and that of their peers. Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school before 9am. Latecoming and poor attendance is monitored by the school management team.

Seesaw

This is our default method for communication with children and families due to the high cost of text messaging. Please ensure you have the Seesaw Family app downloaded and that the school has a parental email address. Contact the school office should you require any assistance setting this up.

ParentPay

The council requires that parents/carers use Parent Pay to pay for items such as lunches and trips. You will have received instructions on how to do this. Please contact the school office if you have any problems as the school will no longer be able to accept cash payments.

Financial Inclusion

We have a finance officer in school every Monday and Thursday morning. Her name is Emma Furniss and she is available to help families with a variety of issues including housing, benefits, employment and training etc.  Please drop in on a Monday or Thursday morning to speak to her or to arrange an appointment. All information shared with Emma is confidential and interpreters can be arranged.

Relationships Policy

We have sent out our Relationships Policy alongside this newsletter. This the expectations for staff, parents/carers and children. It also explains out procedures for dealing with any behaviour or bullying issues.
