The award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school\u2019s planning, policies and practice. \u00a0A Rights Respecting School is a community where children\u2019s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.<\/p>\n<p>There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.<\/p>\n<p>The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Children are healthier and happier<\/li>\n<li>Children feel safe<\/li>\n<li>Children have better relationships<\/li>\n<li>Children become active and involved in school life and the wider world<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>What is UNICEF?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UNICEF \u2013 the\u00a0<strong>United Nations International Children\u2019s Emergency Fund<\/strong>, is the world\u2019s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What are the rights of a child?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child<\/b>\u00a0<b>(UNCRC)\u00a0<\/b>is a legally-binding international agreement setting out the\u00a0<b>civil, political, economic, social\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>cultural rights\u00a0<\/b>of every child, regardless of their race, religion or abilities.
