P1 Learning Journey

We haven’t posted on our blog page in a while as we have been so busy with our learning.  Have a look at our learning journey over the last couple of weeks.

Language

The boys and girls have been developing their ability to construct proper sentences by building sentences with individual words, writing about pictures,  sequencing a sentence and copying it.  Well done Primary 1.

We are so lucky to new ipads in school.  The boys and girls were using the ipads to reinforce their ability to identify words that rime.

Olivia is so proud of herself – she completed a wordsearch for the first time on her own.  She found all of the cvc  words.

We were learning all about ‘prediction’ this week using the book ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson.  The boys and girls got to look at the front cover and they were using all the information from that to predict what it was the ladybird heard.  Some wonderful predictions.

Maths

As part of our work on time we have been learning about the seasons.  We focussed on Summer and Winter this week.  The boys and girls had to sort clothes and items.

cimg2479 cimg2480

Ethan was sorting sums that were ‘true’ or ‘false’.  He used his number line to check if the answer was correct or not – fantastic work Ethan.

cimg2517 cimg2518

Kayla is so happy – look at all of her sums.  She used a number line to add 2 numbers together and recorded her answers on a whiteboard.

cimg2519  cimg2521

The boys and girls LOVE playing ‘number stealer’

Topic – Fairyland

The children have been learning about Goldilocks and the 3 bears.  They made their own split pin bears.  They also sequenced the story and made their own zig zag book.

Fairyland

In Term 3 our topic is Fairyland. The children will be helping the friendly dragon to rebuild Fairyland by completing some tasks. Keep an eye out on our blog to follow our journey rebuilding Fairyland.

It has been such a BUSY first week helping the dragon 🐉.  The boys and girls helped to find the Gingerbread man before the old man, old woman or the sly fox found him.

The children received a letter form the dragon! It was very exciting…

Then the boys and girls wrote back to him…

The dragon needed help to find the Gingerbread man…

The children solved the riddles to find the clues…

Phew! We found him and he is safe…

Then the boys and girls designed their own Gingerbread men.

What a busy first week, we can’t wait to receive our next letter from the dragon 🐉.

Primary 1

In Primary 1 this week we have been learning to add. The children have been using concrete materials to visually see the sum in front of them. Miss Pattison and Miss Fox have been very impressed.

The Children are making good progress with their rhyme and cvc words. They enjoy using magnetic letters, salt and whiteboards to make the words.

The boys and girls started blending this week and we were so impressed with their knowledge of their sounds and how they applied them to blending to make words.

Busy Bees…

Wow what a busy week have had.  We had been busy preparing our songs for the Macmillan Coffee Afternoon but we managed to squeeze some more fun learning in!  Have a look at us in action…

cimg2139 cimg2141

I wonder if you can guess which letter we were learning about?

Yip that’s right ‘l’ – the boys are girls made lollipop crafts to reinforce that sound! Mmm they look good don’t they.

cimg2130 cimg2102 cimg2103 cimg2106 cimg2129

cimg2164 cimg2166 cimg2167

It’s very important that we reinforce our sounds so we did this through sorting activities and roll and cover activities.

cimg2163 cimg2165

The children have started to read, write and identify common words – watch out we have some new readers about 🙂

cimg2131

A listening station has been introduced at language time.  The children really enjoy listening to stories and telling us about what they listened to.
