We started off the week with all the children being replaced by scary figures…..but not to panic they had all been returned by Tuesday.
The boys and girls started blending this week and we were so impressed with their knowledge of their sounds and how they applied them to blending to make words.
Primary 3/2 last week put into practice the excellent work they have been doing over the past term through their Science and STEM learning.
They applied their knowledge to forces, pushing and pulling, whilst designing a basket that made full use of their weaving skills. The children then created a pulley system just like Mr Grinling from their topic! Have a look below at the pictures:
At the end of last term as part of our learning in STEM, P7 designed and built earthquake proof buildings and tested them! First we had to build them. we used cocktail sticks and marshmallows.
Here are some of our buildings.
Next we had to test them. We used a tray of jelly because it wobbled like an earthquake! We timed each of our buildings to see how long it stood for.
Almost all of our buildings survived the earthquake!! Although a few did collapse!
We really enjoyed learning all about earthquakes and how buildings are built to survive them. It was great fun making our own buildings and testing them!!
The boys and girls are so proud of their letter formation that they wanted everyone to see 👀. They circled the letter that they were most proud of.
STEM
Today we looked at our sense of taste. The children had to sort pictures and stick the ‘taste’ pictures on their giant tongues. They are getting excited about making their fruit kebabs where they will be using their knowledge of senses and repeat pattern. Watch this space!
Primary 3 welcome you to their blog page. We hope you enjoy our first post. Please leave us a comment!
This term Primary 3 have been developing their science and STEM skills through a range of activities linked to our topic ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.
The children weaved their own baskets and designed a pulley system just like in the story. have a look at our creations!
Mrs Ali posted a video of how we were able to design a pulley system to get the basket with yummy food across to Mr Grinling!
The children really are really engaging in the range of different learning opportunities happening in and out of the classroom. This week we have been focusing on number ordering, formation and being able to sort objects into sets. Here are some examples of the children hard at work.
Shape Hunt
We took advantage of the nicer afternoons this week and we went on a shape hunt. The children were looking for examples of 2d shapes in their environment.
Shape detectives in action:
Fun with letters and words
Primary 1 hope you enjoyed their learning journey this week. Have a lovely weekend!
Some of the P6 and P7 children had a fantastic day at the cross country. The weather was brilliant! All the children ran really well and had great fun!!
