The role of the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) is to encourage safety within their school community and for everyone to take responsibility for their own safety on the road. They can do this by addressing road safety issues on a regular basis throughout the school year.
JRSOs are usually picked from P6 and they take charge of promoting and educating their peers about road safety in a number of ways.
For 2026/2027, our JRSOs are Emily Jeffrey P6 and Callum Kyle P6.
Their core responsibilities will include:
- School Presentations: Deliver road safety talks and updates during school assemblies and individual classes.
- Noticeboards: Create and maintain an interactive, up-to-date road safety noticeboard in the school.
- Competitions: Organise engagement activities like poster or safety slogan competitions.
- Campaign Participation: Sometimes represent their schools in city-wide initiatives, such as Glasgow City Council’s active travel and speed-reduction campaigns.
- Surveys: Help facilitate activities like the Hands Up Scotland Travel Survey to monitor how pupils travel to school.
