Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing at Our School

At our school, we are committed to supporting the mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing of all learners. We aim to help children develop the skills, knowledge, and resilience they need to lead healthy, happy lives.

Our Approaches and Resources

We use a range of evidence-based programmes and resources to support Health and Wellbeing, including:

  • RSHP (Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood)
  • Emotion Works
  • Bounce Back
  • A variety of additional responsive resources to meet the needs of our learners

RSHP is a national resource, developed and supported by the Scottish Government, and forms a key part of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum.

Why We Use These Approaches

We have selected these approaches to provide a well-rounded and supportive Health and Wellbeing curriculum:

  • National guidance: RSHP ensures learning is age-appropriate, progressive, and aligned with Curriculum for Excellence
  • Emotional literacy: Emotion Works helps children understand and manage their emotions using a clear, visual framework
  • Resilience and coping skills: Bounce Back supports children to develop positive mental health, resilience, and strategies for dealing with challenges
  • Inclusive and responsive: A range of resources allows us to meet the diverse needs of all learners

What Your Child Can Expect

A typical Health and Wellbeing lesson or experience in our school may include:

  • Discussions and activities around relationships, feelings, and wellbeing
  • Learning about emotions and strategies to manage them
  • Opportunities to build resilience, confidence, and self-esteem
  • Age-appropriate RSHP learning to support understanding of relationships and personal development
  • Circle time and group discussions to share ideas and experiences
  • A safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable to express themselves

Health and Wellbeing is embedded across the school day, ensuring children feel supported, valued, and ready to learn.
