{"id":401,"date":"2023-02-19T21:42:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-19T21:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/annettestreet\/?page_id=401"},"modified":"2023-02-20T22:04:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T22:04:42","slug":"attendance-and-absence","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/annettestreet\/attendance-and-absence\/","title":{"rendered":"Attendance and Absence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Every Day is a learning Day &#8211; Attendance matters<\/h6>\n<p><strong>We believe in encouraging every child,\u00a0 every chance, everyday.\u00a0 Every day is a learning day in Annette Street and education is every child&#8217;s right.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within Annette Street Primary School good attendance is encouraged at all times.\u00a0 We acknowledge good attendance at assembly, celebrate the hard worker of the week and communicate regularly with parents about attendance.<\/p>\n<p>If we have a concern about attendance we will first of all send a Groupcall message.\u00a0 This will let you know the attendance figure for your child.\u00a0 This may be followed up with letters if needed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter 1 \u2013 attendance below % recording our concerns<\/li>\n<li>Letter 2 \u2013 attendance improvement<\/li>\n<li>Letter 3 \u2013 attendance deterioration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If there is an ongoing issue with attendance, we will work with families on an attendance plan agreed with parents and child, and monitored by Mrs Wallace.\u00a0 If this doesn&#8217;t support improvement, we might also\u00a0 involve the Home School Support Worker and\/or Social Work.\u00a0 We will look for solutions in how to support your child to attend school and stay positive in our approach.<\/p>\n<p>However, if no improvement in attendance is seen by the next review date, a meeting will be arranged with parent and child to discuss further support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastoral Support\/Nurture supports\/Named person<\/li>\n<li>Timetable adjustment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When attendance improves we will acknowledge and celebrate this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are all a team around your child.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6>Extended Leave<\/h6>\n<p><strong>We strongly urge families to book holidays and leave within the existing school holiday time.<\/strong>\u00a0 We have a high number of school learning days lost due to extended leave.<\/p>\n<p>If a parent wishes to request extended leave with parental permission for their child, parents must contact the school office to make an appointment with a member of the senior leadership team.<\/p>\n<p>A maximum time is agreed and parents are informed of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maximum 4 weeks extended leave with parental permission (EXL)<\/li>\n<li>Should the child not return to school after this period there will be further 4 weeks recorded absence (ABS)<\/li>\n<li>Should the child not return to school and parents fail to contact the school MC5 Missing in Education procedures will be invoked (MIS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>Reporting absence<\/h6>\n<p>Please only allow your child to be off school if they are not well enough to learn.\u00a0 <strong>This should be done as early as possible on the first day of absence and before 9:30am.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the young person is going to be absent for some time, it would be helpful to know at the earliest opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>The school uses daily text messaging to inform parents and carers of absence if no contact is made.<\/p>\n<p>All unexplained absence is investigated by the school and appropriate action taken.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow City Council operate a Pupil Absence Reporting Line which you can contact on 0141 287 0039. The line is open between 08.00-15.30 Monday to Friday.
