On Friday 3rd October 2015 I was part of the Glasgow Active Schools team who organised over 3,000 P5 pupils to take part in the Great Scottish Run at Glasgow Green.
Over the previous few weeks many schools in Glasgow had been preparing their classes to take part in the run by organising training sessions. The children were looking forward to putting their training into practice by running the 2k loop at Glasgow Greeen finishing under the arch that a couple of days later world class athletes would also pass under at the end of their 10k or half marathon.
For our Active Schools team it is a lot of work to coordinate, manage, transport and look after 3,000 children! We divide the schools into 3 waves as follows …
WAVE 1
- 09:45 First wave of schools start to arrive
- 10:00 Warm-up for Wave 1
- 10:10 Start of Wave 1
- 10:30 Last child finishes
- 10:30 – 11.20 Sports & Physical Activities
- 11:30 Wave 1 coaches depart
WAVE 2
- 10:45 Wave 2 coaches start to arrive
- 11:00 Warm-up for Wave 2
- 11:15 Start of Wave 2
- 11:35 Last child finishes
- 11:35- 12:30 Sports & Physical Activities
- 12:30 Wave 2 coaches depart
