Mile-a-thon Finale Run Thurs 3rd Dec 2015

On Thursday 3rd December over 350 children from Cardonald PS, Craigton PS, Crookston Castle PS, Hillington PS and Sandwood PS came together at Bellahouston Park to complete their Mile-a-thon challenge.

Over the last 13 weeks the pupils from P4-7 have been running one mile a week one lunch time and running another mile at home.

All those pupils who have stuck with the programme were invited to come to Bellahouston Park for the Mile-a-thon Finale. The weather was very kind to us with blue sky and no wind or rain!

Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) sponsored the event paying for the buses and medals. Active Schools would like to thank them for their continued support. This is now the 6th year GHA have been involved.

The pupils arrived on their buses for a 10am start.  John Kynaston led the pupils on a warm up to get them ready for the run.

The pupils were set off in groups starting with P7, then P6, P5 and finally P4.

The pupils needed to run at least 3 laps (0.5 mile per loop) to complete their Mile-a-thon but they could run as many laps as they could in the 25 minutes available.

I took some video clips and put together a short video of the event that hopefully the schools have been able to show to the children who took part.

Here are some photos taken from the video showing the children enjoying their run ….
