{"id":4001,"date":"2018-11-19T21:13:34","date_gmt":"2018-11-19T20:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/LourdesSecondarySchool\/?page_id=4001"},"modified":"2018-11-19T21:20:46","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T20:20:46","slug":"bge-s1-s3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/LourdesSecondarySchool\/subjects\/science-2\/bge-s1-s3\/","title":{"rendered":"BGE S1 &#8211; S3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Broad General Education Science at Lourdes we aim to deliver a course that, as well as building upon Scientific Knowledge &amp; Understanding and practical Scientific Skills, will develop learners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Scientific Curiosity and Wonder<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Scientific Morals and Ethics<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Application of Scientific Knowledge<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>S1<\/h3>\n<p>In S1 Science learners will study 6 topics in total:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term 1<\/strong>: Cracking the Code, Essential Energy &amp; Meaningful Matter <strong>Term 2<\/strong>: Brilliant Bodies, Fantastic Forces &amp; Smashing Substances<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each term pupils will sit two assessments \u2013 a Science skills assessment and a Science knowledge assessment. Pupils will complete a weekly Science diary as part of their homework.<\/p>\n<h3>S2<\/h3>\n<p>Building upon the knowledge and skills developed in S1 pupils will study a further 6 topics in S2:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term 1<\/strong>: Beautiful Biodiversity, Crazy Chemical Reactions &amp; Exciting Electricity<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term 2:<\/strong> Beautiful Biodiversity, Crazy Chemical Reactions &amp; Exciting Electricity<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each term pupils will sit two assessments \u2013 a Science skills assessment and a Science knowledge assessment. Pupils will complete a weekly Science diary as part of their homework.<\/p>\n<h3>S3<\/h3>\n<p>Building upon the knowledge and skills developed in S2, and in preparation for starting the Nationals in S4, pupils will study a further 6 topics in S3:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term 1<\/strong>: Atoms to Ions, Cells, Enzymes and Microorganisms &amp; Waves<\/p>\n<p><strong>Term 2<\/strong>: Metals, Life Science, &amp; Forces and Space<\/p>\n<p>At the end of each topic pupils will completed a combined skills and knowledge assessment.
