School Isn’t a Joke
You might have your whole life planned out how you want it: you know who you’re going to marry, what your wedding will be like, what your job will be, how much money you’ll have, but if you don’t take school seriously then you can jeopardize your chances of achieving that. You might not get the job you want, meaning less money and because you haven’t studied for other jobs so therefore it is hard to find one that you are able to do.
Most school pupils think that school is just a big joke. They think that you can turn up, learn a few things, behave how you like then suddenly get your dream job without any effort but the world of work doesn’t function that way. Every punishment exercise, referral or late slip you gain gets saved on a file which employers or universities look at when you apply. If you want to be a hard job like a lawyer, doctor etc. you are up against a lot of hard working people who have never been in trouble while you might have had a few punishment exercises or referrals. When it comes to who employers or universities decide to take on you will not stand a chance against them. Each decision you make in these thirteen years of school decide the rest of your life.
The subjects you chose and how well you do them give you the grades you need to take a degree in whatever career you want to have. If you do badly in exams because you ‘couldn’t be bothered’ studying or thought you would remember everything then you wont get the grade you need to have that job. The marks you get on tests are also saved on your file so if, for example, in your maths test you get 35% because you thought you are only in first year and your results don’t matter till fifth or sixth year you are wrong. Also, with the new curriculum for excellence, your results depend on whether your are national four or a national five student.
Do you really want to live the rest of your life below the standards that you are capable of achieving because you thought school didn’t matter?
