Outdoor learning fortnight- week 2

This week we have continued out learning in the great outdoors- well, our beautiful playground!

On Monday we tested our skills of the eight points of the compass by writing our names on the MUGA. we had to describe each movement of the chalk with a compass direction. This was tricky at first but we were up for the challenge!

We continued our work on spooky videos. Each team has 2 sculptors, 2 camera  operators and a director. We finished filming our shots for the video on Monday. Please see the previous blog post for the final products!

We also completed our pictures inspired by Roshany’s artwork. We took inspiration from the eco garden

On Wednesday our sweet classmates Hanna, Aroush, Arisha, Aamna and Zaynab had organised a scavenger hunt for all of us. They hid clues all over the playground which eventually led to a hidden USB. On the USB were loads of old pictures of our class from primary one until now. It was amazing!

Thursday was our most exciting day! We worked together in teams to build dens. These shelter had to be weather resistant and large enough for all of us to chill in. We also learned how to build a fire. Using that fire, and inspired by our American themed guided reading this week, we made s’mores! They were delicious!

We have had so much fun and can’t believe that term 1 is over already!!

Let’s see what exciting adventures term 2 has in store for us!

Outdoor learning fortnight- week 1

Outdoor learning fortnight is here!

Here is some examples of the kinds of things we have been learning this week:
on Tuesday we worked together to create a bike to school week video to show get pupils how to travel safely to school on their bikes. You can see the completed video on our last blog post.

We have been studying the compass in maths. On Tuesday we answer questions about the 8 compass points. We learned that St. Andrews drive is North of the school and which positions lots of other objects are.

On Thursday we used our compass knowledge to create our own map of the upper playground.

On Wednesday we used our compass knowledge to complete some orienteering tasks

In literacy we have been learning about creative writing. We have taken our setting of in the woods and each written a short story about this. We used photo edit on our iPads to create spooky and mystical photos of the playground for this setting.

On Thursday we recorded different onomatopoeic sounds in the sensory garden that can be used in our story. We will be recording these and making videos next week.

In reading we have been learning about aboriginal culture in Australia. We learned about cave paintings and used natural elements to create our own.

In P.E. we learned a new and exciting game all about grabbing the cone before your partner

On Friday we took 6 of the stories that were written by Muna, Hamza, Hubaib, Ahmed, Fatimah and Jalal and started turning them into films. Each team had camera operators, a director and two sculptors to work with modelling clay. We will finish these next week.

We were so inspired by Roshany’s artwork she created for the Macmillan coffee morning we decided to create our own. We used the eco garden as our inspirational setting.

we can’t wait for more fun outdoors next week!

Road safety

Good morning everyone.

This week we had some visitors come to see us in the school playground. Lorna from the Glasgow Road Safety team came to help us with our campaign to make the new entrance on St Andrews Drive safer.
She has loaned us two parking buddies, be sure to look out for them and slow down when you see them!

she also brought along 2 speed guns for us to use. We think that too many cars are driving over the speed limit when driving on this road and now that most of us use this road every day we need to change this!

we all got a turn of using the speed gun and clocking the speed of a passing car. Shockingly, almost 3/4 of the cars we saw were speeding! The fastest we recorded was 48 miles per hour! We were horrified!

hopefully these records will help our campaign to install some traffic calming  measures on St Andrews Drive. But for now, please take care when you are out on the road!

We will keep you updated on our campaign. We are working hard writing letters to the government asking for change as well as creating a podcast to deliver our message.

Meet the Teacher

As we can’t have parents, carers and visitors into the building at this time, P7 have made a video to show the people at home what they are looking forward to this year and to meet Miss Webster

if anyone wishes to ask Miss Webster anything about the year ahead which would normally be discussed in person at this type of event please email

An outdoorsy week

Hello everyone!

we have had another amazing week here in primary 7.

We have started our new maths topic: Angles!

We went out into the playground to find types of angles in the real world. We found acute, right, obtuse and reflex angles.

we also went outside to take part in an orienteering game with our Active Schools Coordinator Yvonne! You can see the photos from this on the health and well-being blog!

This week the whole school have been focussing on Mental Health. We learning that mental health is not a bad thing and we all have days where we do not feel our best. We gave Miss Webster some examples we knew based on our own experiences and learned about different ways to help both ourselves and those around us.

Finally we have been continuing our discussion about regulating emotions. Stay tuned for a fun video with our incredible performances about this topic!
