Den Building โ›บ๏ธ๐Ÿ”จ

Den building is lots of fun however working as part of a team to build a sturdy den is quite hard. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

We used a range of materials and natural materials found in our playground to build a den. We were split into 3 teams and the team with the sturdiest den won. Itโ€™s good to compete against each other sometimes.

In our teams, we had to use the interpersonal skills we have been learning about and work together to do the task. Itโ€™s important to listen to others in your team as well as tell your teammates what you think. There were lots of laughs when building our dens and lots of starting over again when things didnโ€™t work out.

We learned about securing objects to the ground and to trees, we learned about knots to tie to keep part secure and we realised that not everything we thought would work did work. Startingย over again until we were successful was all part of the learning and, although it was frustrating at the time, it was worth it in the end when all 3 of the groups managed to build fantastic dens.

Here are some photographs of the process of our den building activity. ย Can you remember what any of the equipment was called? Watch the video at the end and see us all enjoying โ€˜The Party Denโ€™!

Wood Whittling ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

Recently, weโ€™ve learned how to wood whittle and had lots of fun doing it. Wood whittling is carving or shaving wood. You can use tools for this like a knife or another sharp object but we decided to use natural materials when we were whittling wood in our playground.

Have a go at wood whittling in the local area and teach your family how to do it. Itโ€™s lots of fun! Neha had a sneaky advantage with her bike lock key. This helped her whittle some great designs.

After this, we voted on which pair was the best at wood whittling. This was a hard decision as there were so many brilliant designs. Each pair explained what they did and how they did it and then they showed us their designs.ย

And the winners were (drumroll please)…

Exploring our Eco Garden ๐ŸŒฟโ™ป๏ธ

Through our science lessons, we are learning about living things. On Friday, we explored our beautiful Eco Garden and learned about the importance of respecting living things.

Together we investigated the different plants and spoke about what animals might live within the plants. Plants are so important for many insects and living things and we know we need to take care of them and respect them. We need plants and other green spaces for many reasons and so we need to work hard to maintain them.

We found courgettes, lavender, pears, apples, berries, mint, a huge sunflower and much more during our investigation.

How lucky are we to have this wonderful green space within our school grounds?

Maxwell Park ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŒณ

We loved our trip to Maxwell Park on Friday.

We played games, worked together in teams, were fascinated by the ducks and had many laughs together on a beautiful day.

While we enjoyed our snack in the sunshine, we discussed how lucky we are to have this fantastic park so close to our homes and school. Try and persuade your family to go to the park with you and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

What an excellent day bonding with one another and making memories. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Hire out our Sensory Garden ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‚

We worked in groups to create an advert to hire out our sensory garden. ย We imagined we were a marketing team and we had to make an advert to show to people in the hope they would pay money to hire out our sensory garden.

For this task, we used what we have learned about interpersonal skills, persuasive language and digital learning to create our adverts. ย In our groups, we discussed what would attract people to our Sensory Garden, what activities they could do there, what kind of people or groups we could target to hire it out and we budgeted a price we thought would be fair for them to pay for the duration of time they use our fantastic outdoor space.

Watch this space for the final advert to be aired soon. ย Here are some pictures and videos of us having fun while we worked together to create our videos…

Jaidon also took a wee trip …

Great Scottish Run ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

WOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Weโ€™ve ย completed the Great Scottish Run virtually over the past 2 weeks. We have walked, jogged, ran and sprinted over 100 miles as a class. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Jaidon found it lots of fun and Fatima said it was hard. ย Noor Fatima said we are proud of ourselves and Umar thought it was easy because we enjoyed ourselves as we were chatting along the way. Zayan found it tiring, Iqra found it fun but hard because it hurt her legs, Malaika had fun when we were listening to music as we walked the miles and Anum loved the exciting feeling of finishing.

What a great achievement!!!!!!

Podcasting ๐ŸŽš๐Ÿ“ป๐ŸŽ™๐ŸŽค

This term, we are campaigning for an improvement in our school lunches. ย Weโ€™ve been learning about the features of a campaign and how to persuade people to give us what we are asking for.

As part of this project, we have been learning how to podcast with Mr McCormack. Weโ€™ve learned how to set up a mixing desk and mics for a podcast, as well as how to include sound effects and control the volume on the mixing desk.

Learning through technology is lots of fun and we are loving sharing our opinion on why our school lunches should be improved.

Confident Individuals ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

A massive thank you and well done to all of our amazing classmates who have volunteered to present in front of our class.

You have all shown bravery and we have loved being an audience for your fantastic presentations. We have been so impressed with your digital skills in creating the presentation and weโ€™ve also been impressed with your talking and listening skills. ย Keep up this excellent work superstars!

Remember, anyone can volunteer to speak to the class about a subject theyโ€™re interested in.
