Week beginning 14th June

Hi everyone

We have had such a fun week in Primary 1 this week. The weather has been great so we have spent most of time outside. Even when it was raining we got to put on our suits and go out and jump in the puddles.

We have been practicing writing words and our number formation out in the playground using chalk and we went on a shape hunt in the sensory garden. We also got to watch the pupils v teachers football match which was lots of fun!

Here are some photos from our week!

Week Beginning 24th

Hi everyone!

Another very busy week in primary 1. It has been so busy that I haven’t managed to take many photos this week.

In literacy this week, we have been focusing on Jack and The Beanstalk. On Tuesday we read the story together and predicted what would happen at the end. There were some very imaginative endings. We have also been completing story maps to help us remember how the story goes. Along with this we have been working really hard to learn all our red and yellow tricky words. You can practice this at home as the words are in our new homework folders.

In maths this week we have been learning all about measuring the length of different things. This has been linked to Jack and the Beanstalk, we compared our hands and feet with the giants hands and feet. We have also been practicing our number stories to 10.

For science this week we made magic dancing beans. It was lots of fun. You can ask us about this at home.

I hope everyone has an amazing long weekend!

Week Beginning 17th

Hi Everyone

It was great to have everyone back this week. I hope you all had a lovely Eid with your families last week. I really enjoyed hearing all about what you were doing. We spent Monday morning discussing this and talking about what your favourite part of Eid was. We had some really lovely answers, from playing cricket with dad to making chocolate strawberries and spending time with family.

We have continued our growing and living topic this week. We have been learning all about the life cycle of a duck. It has been so much fun learning about this with real ducks. We got to see the eggs in the incubator, watch them hatch and then grow bigger each day. We even got to take them for a swim, it was so much fun and no one could believe how fast they were.

We have used the inspiration of the ducks in our writing this week and have been describing each stage of the life cycle of a duck. We have also been learning about capital letters and matching them to their lower case letter. We are still focusing on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces when writing.

In maths, we have been learning about counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and practicing our adding to 10 and 20 skills. We have been looking for the patterns in the numbers to help us remember when skip counting. You can practice this at home with us as  well. We have just started to learn about measuring length and we will work more on this next week in class.

In P.E, we have been practicing athletics and sports day activities. We have had a go at Javelin, hurdles, throwing at a target and different types of races.

Here are some other photos from the rest of our week, including our duck artwork that we made today!

Have a great weekend everyone! See you Monday 🙂

This week in Primary 1

Hi everyone 😊

We have had lots of fun this week in P1. We have been learning all about mini beasts and where they live! We have spent a lot of time outside on mini beast hunts and making a mini beast hotel for all the bugs in the playground to live in.

Our literacy this week has been focused on writing about where the mini beasts live and we wrote instructions on how to build your own minibeast hotel. You can ask us how we did it!

In maths, we have been learning about money. We have been working on our coin recognition and putting the coins in to order of value. This is  quite tricky to remember as the smallest coin is not the smallest  value. You can help us practice this at home  as well.

Have a look at some of our photos below from our week in school.

Have a great long  weekend 😊

Book Week 📚📚

Hi

It was book week this week and we have had so much fun learning about our favourite books!

We continued to learn our new sounds and we learnt j, ai and oa this week. We got to make paper snails and we also got to make jam sandwiches. It was lots of fun!

For book week we spent lots of time reading our favourite stories in lots of different places. Thank you to P6 who read some stories to us in the hall. This was great fun.

In maths this week we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We know that even numbers have a partner and can be shared equally but odd numbers don’t have a partner and can’t be shared equally.

Here are some other pictures from our week in school.

Have a great weekend!

9th November!

Hi

Another very busy week in Primary 1!

We have been continuing to learn our sounds and practice blending the sounds together to read words. We now also know g, o, u, f, l and b. We had lots of fun outside practicing blending outside. We had to pass the ball to each other and shout the sound to spell out the word. We have also been learning about the story of Rama and Sita. We had to summarise the story then put it into the right order using pictures.

In Maths this week we have been learning about addition and subtraction. We have talked about what the different symbols mean (+, -,  =). We have practiced doing our own addition and subtraction problems using classroom objects to help.

For P.E this week we have been working together and doing lots of different team games. We played a game of snake. This was so much fun trying to catch the person at the back of the line without the line breaking.

Thanks

Fireworks 🎇 🎆

Hi

Sorry for the delay in posting the blog.

Last week we started to learn about number bonds to 10 and we continued our work learning about 3D shapes. We got to make 3D shapes with blu tack and tooth picks. This was really tricky but lots of fun.

We continued to learn our sounds and are working really hard to blend sounds together to read words. You can help us with this at home! We have been learning a poem about fireworks using a story map to help us!

We made some amazing firework art using forks and paint. We also were learning about staying safe around fireworks.

I hope everyone had a great weekend

Thanks

Halloween 🎃🎃🎃

Hi

We have had lots for fun this week with lots of different Halloween themed activities.

In maths this week we have been learning about number bonds to 5. You can ask us to show you different ways to make 5. For our maths topic we have started to learn about 3D shapes. Ask us to see if we remember any of the names of these shapes.

We have continued to learn our sounds. Ask us to tell you a word that starts with any of these sounds; s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, h, r, m, d. You can also ask us to have a go at writing these sounds.

As part our history of story telling topic we have been focusing on Anansi the Spider, which is Ghanaian folk tale. We have made a story map to help us learn the story and also made some Anansi art.

Here are some other pictures from our week in primary one.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Outdoor Learning Week 1

Hi everyone!

We have been having so much fun in P1 this week for our outdoor learning week.

We have continued with our phonics and have been learning the C and K sound. We have practiced writing the C sound using chalk and also using twigs and leaves.  We then got to hear a story about Pete the cat and his white shoes. We got our wellies on and pretended to be Pete the cat to see what colours we could make with the paint. It was lots of fun.

In maths this week we have been learning about time. We have been learning about day and night and putting our day into the correct order and also the days of the week and the months of the year. We got to go outside and draw around shadows in the playground so that we could go back out later and look at what had happened!

For our topic this week, we have been learning about the seasons and what changes happen during each season. We went on an Autumn scavenger hunt in the playground and found lots of colourful leaves. We used these and the sticks we collected to make an Autumn tree picture.

Have a great weekend everyone!
