Our Termly Learning Plan ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ’

Hi everyone,

Here is an overview of what we will be learning about during Term 1.

I am hopeful that we will really enjoy our new IDL topic and embrace the opportunity to be learning outdoors! โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ

What happened this week in Class 2 ๐Ÿ’œ

Hi all ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

We had a fun week of learning! During our weekly evaluation this morning, Class 2 brainstormed what we had been doing this week; ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ก

  • We were learning about the sound โ€˜aiโ€™ like in rain, pain, snail. โ€“ Subhan
  • In Science, we were making potions using ingredients for qualities of a good friend โ€“ Ross ๐Ÿงช
  • We were practicing our Handwriting using the letter b โ€“ Khadijaโœ๏ธ
  • We were playing Bingo with our Thousands, Hundreds, Tens and Units โ€“ Ross๐Ÿงฎ
  • We took selfies of ourselves for our morning check-in faces so that we could describe our feelings better โ€“ Bilal ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฐ
  • We were choosing digital signatures from artists who design letters. My A was made out of loads of emojis โ€“ Kayden๐ŸŽจ
  • We were learning about adjectives to improve our sentences โ€“ Ross
  • We played a game with the parachute called Sharks and Lifeguards – Kit๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿฆˆ

We like to rate our week out of 10 to get an idea of how we could improve or maintain our happy, calm class environment. Miss Cohen was super chuffed with our responses;

Kayden โ€“ 8

Subhan โ€“ 10

Bilal โ€“ 8

Hector โ€“ 8

Khadija โ€“ 10

Kit โ€“ 8

Ross โ€“ 10

Here’s Khadija practicing writing her initial sounds on a whiteboard! Her pencil control was amazing here and made Miss Cohen very proud ๐Ÿ™‚
Class 2 said that Miss Cohen’s photo on the door was way out of date – so we took a new one that is much more current!

Here’s some photographs of the fun potion making Ross mentioned! We discussed which qualities we would look for in a ‘good friend’; honesty, kindness, a good listener, someone who makes you feel calm, someone you enjoy chatting to, someone who treasures you just the way you are – to name a few!

On Friday afternoon, after our Gym time, we had some choosing time. Miss Cohen asked Mr McCormack if we could spend some time playing with the bass guitars and the drum kit. It was a perfect way to end the day! Subhan singing ‘Old Town Road’ whilst strumming the guitar was awesome…next stop Britain’s Got Talent!๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽง๐Ÿช•

Today, we also were thinking about powerful adjectives we could use in our Writing to up-level our sentences and make them more interesting for the reader. We will continue looking into these next week in more detail!

Happy weekend everyone – I am so happy with your efforts this week!โค๏ธ

See you on Monday x

Home Learning

Miss Cohen will post links to activities that Class 2 can try at home on a weekly basis, beginning next Monday 31st August.

If you can reply with your child’s response to these tasks via email – that would be great as, due to Covid-19 guidelines, we should not be sending work to and from the school and home environments. My email address is gw17cohennadine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d preferably like to have tasks returned to me by Thursday at the latest, so that I can share pupils’ efforts the following day when we do our Weekly evaluations in class.

Thank you!

Miss Cohen

Our first week back in Class 2 – and what a joy it’s been!

A summary of our first week of learning in Class 2:

Here we are doing a Science experiment investigating how germs spread. We used pepper, soap and water to show how important it is to wash our hands thoroughly with soap! Soap is even better than hand sanitizer – and we need to remember to do this whenever we enter the classroom from being outside.

We were talking about having a Growth mindset (GM) or a fixed mindset. We went on a scavenger hunt to find clues about how to have a superhero growth mindset! We even made our own superhero characters with GM sayings – they are on display in our classroom!

Class 2 were discussing Class rules and how to keep ourselves safe and happy inside and outside of the classroom. We also agreed on more verbally. They were;

  • Try your very best when learning. Mistakes are good because we learn from them!
  • When you are finished your work, put it in the correct learning tray.
  • Be considerate of how other members of the class learn. We are all different and have different strategies and ways to keep us on task.

We played a Finnish game called Molkky with Miss Bull. Molkky is a fun throwing game where you have to aim for wooden poles with numbers on them. If the wooden pole has a 11 on the top, for example, you get 11 points. If the wooden pole has a 12 on the top, you get 12 points. If you knock down more than one pole, then you score yourself the number of poles that were knocked over. For example, if I knocked over three poles, that would equate to three points. The person with the highest score in the end will be the winner!

If you’d like to try making this game or playing this game at home – have a watch of this video tutorial to learn the rules!;

We have been learning about Place Value in Maths. We have been practicing reading a number in words, and then changing it into digits. We have also been practicing counting on and back in our 2s, 5s and 10s.

Learning for Sustainability – We brainstormed what LfS meant to us. The responses were fabulous! We voted to do a mini-topic on our local libraries potentially closing down…stay tuned for our future actions to save these community spaces!

We were using the I-pads to carry out some ICT challenges. Miss Cohen asked us to do many things; take a screenshot, take a selfie, record a Slo-Mo video of a friend, insert a postcode into Google Maps etc. Here are some pictures of what we got upto…

In the playground, we played a new game called ‘Flip UP’ with Duncan. We had to turn the cones around so that they were facing up and work as a team to do so. When we got really quick at this, Duncan timed us to see if we could improve our speed! The wind wasn’t our friend haha!

Hector celebrated his 10th birthday party on Thursday 20th August. We had a class party on Friday which was super fun! We enjoyed two cakes – a lemon drizzle and a chocolate cake that Mr Stewart and Miss Cohen had baked. We played Musical bumps, Musical statues and Murder Mystery.

What a great start to Term 1!
