Class 2 2018-2019

A record of our learning journey this year :)

Equalities and discrimination

Class 2 have been doing some super work on their new topic of equalities and discrimination. They have been learning about the Equality Act 2010 and the characteristics that are protected in this. They thought of excellent examples of discrimination under the different categories and also learned about reasonable adjustments that schools or workplaces could make to make sure nobody is discriminated against. Here are some of their thoughts –

  • Equality is being fair to everyone. This does not mean the same thing for everyone, like giving someone in a wheelchair more time in a race because they use a walker.” Isaac
  • Discrimination is when you are unkind to someone because of thir race like bullying someon because of the colour of their skin. This is called harassment.” Mariam
  • It is discrimination if a school or job doesn’t make a room for praying.Subhan
  • Discrimination is unfair. Like only letting girls out to play and not boys!” Huzaifa
  • Discrimination because of age is terrible. You may think someone is older then they are but need to be fair when giving out a job anyway.” Kit

We will be continuing with work on this over the next few weeks making posters and making a short film about their learning.

“We are kind in Class 2 and do not discriminate” 🙂 🙂 🙂

This week we have also been learning  –

  • double sums and quick recall of these
  • further work on co-ordinates and directions
  • verb tenses and using past present and future verbs correctly
  • answering questions in full sentences using words form the question
  • revising double sounds
  • making good choices and needing to wait before acting
  • working out clues to solve a problem
  • about Mary and why she is important in the Catholic faith

Looking at the past, present and future of verbs and then using these in sentences

Hearing a mystery story and solving the clues to help us understand about waiting for all the information to make the best choices 🙂

The doubles sums we are trying tot learn by heart – quiz us at home to check if we know them!

Have a great holiday weekend. Remember swimming kit on Wednesday when we are back next week 🙂
