As part of our Harris topic we have been learning about the weather there and how it affects life on the island. This week we visited the BBC in Glasgow and had a tour of the weather studio from Judith Ralston the BBC weather presenter! The class had great fun doing some of their own weather forecasts.
The class’ thoughts on weather and how it affects life in Harris after watching several videos
Arriving at the BBC and spotting the BBC Alba sign which we know from our Gaelic lessons!
Getting shown around the building by Murdo and asking lots of questions
Judith Ralston explaining about the weather forecast and how it works
Mariam and Kit spotting themselves on one of the monitors!
Amazing Class 2 weather presenters! 🙂
A group photo with Judith before we left
Judith tweeting about our visit 🙂
In other topic learning this week we looked at lots of different Harris Tweed products and learned about how this material is made.
Handbags, gloves, coasters, shoes, purses.. but our favourite was the cosy scarves!
In our literacy work we have been learning about non-fiction features. We have been discussing these and finding them in our reading books. When we are reading our non-fiction books at home make sure you ask us to find headings, captions, labels, the contents, index and glossary! We have also been learning about alternative ai sounds in our phonics, as well as continuing developing our knowledge of connectives in writing. This weeks handwriting letter was e / E and again the sun shone for us to go outside to practice our letter formation in the playground.
Finding, sorting and spelling alternative ai phonics
Writing small and capital e as well as some e words
During circle time we have been learning about friendships and have been thinking about how to make new friends and what is important. The class split into groups to act out scenarios of a child trying to join in with 2 existing friends and the others had to guess were they acting being a good friend or a bad friend.
Things to remember when making new friendsÂ
Super acting from the class as they pretended to not know the 2 people already talking and join in, either in a way that would make friends or would not!
Have a super weekend, ready for the last week of term!
