All of St Albert’s have been learning outdoors this week. In Class 2 we have been doing lots of interesting things using the outdoor context with our learning.
The week started off with an outdoor assembly!
We have been doing some of our mental maths outside. We practiced writing our HTU numbers and played find the number e.g find the number with 5 hundreds, find the number with an even number of tens, find the number with the same number of tens and units.
We have also been learning about measure this week in particular learning about measuring in metres, centimetres and millimetres. We collected some things outside to compare in size, ordering them from smallest to largest and then measured these with our measuring tapes. We also went on a hunt for things to measure both inside and outside and made sure we used the correct unit of measurement and measured the correct part of the thing – the height or width.
In literacy, we learned about setting, where something takes place. We went outside to take some notes on an autumn setting in the playground using our senses to describe what we could see, hear, smell and feel. We collated these notes inside and learned about positional openers to make the start of our sentences different. Look at these great pieces of writing 🙂
We did some learning about different types of trees and in Scotland and went hunting in the school grounds to find which different types we have by using the shape of the leaves to identify them.
During topic we continued our learning about the rainforest looking at where in the world these fabulous areas are found. We compared the ‘forest’ in our playground to a rainforest, in particuar looking at the climate and weather. Next week we are going to make some notes on the weather in a rainforest and are going to film our very own rainforest weather report! Check back on the blog to see these 🙂
There was lots of chalk being used this week outside, during lessons and at break times! Look at this fantastic portrait of Isaac that Saad drew at lunch, and coloured in with the help of Mariam 🙂
Everyone should sleep well this weekend with all the fresh air this week! Have a great weekend 🙂
