Mrs Ahmed set up an obstacle course for us as part of our PE.

The obstacle course involved us running, jumping, changing direction and doing star jumps.  It was hard work!!

We split up into 2 teams and the winning team was the team to have all its members finished first.

Things got pretty heated as we all wanted to win so much.  It’s good to be competitive!!

The Southside Fringe is taking place again this year near our school.  It begins on the 11th May and lasts for 16 days.

Some of the children in our school are part of the parade and are performing at the festival.  We are all very excited.

We decided to advertise the event by creating posters for it.  We know that we event posters must have relevant information on them like what is happening at the event, where it is and when it is.  We’ve made sure to include all of these details and had fun being creative at the same time.

Our time working with The Conservatoire came to an end last week as we put on a performance which included all of our learning.

We have loved working with the talented tutors from The Conservatoire and have learned lots from them.

The title of our performance  is,
”An exploration of Scotland’s landscapes and the journeys we take through them expressed using the Creative Arts.”

On Tuesday, we performed for different classes in the school and we used this as our rehearsals.  Performers always rehearse before their main show to make sure everything is perfect.

Rehearsals were fun and the technical group managed to set up all the lights, sound desks and mics while we were rehearsing.  This is hard work but we knew how to do it quickly and correctly thanks to Lou’s amazing teaching over the past 6 weeks.

Performing in front of other pupils in the school made us nervous but we enjoyed ourselves anyway.  It was good for other pupils to see our learning as they had maybe never seen a performance like this before.

Our parents had been invited in to see our performance and we were so excited to show off our learning.
The performance was performed in promenade which meant the audience had to follow the performers as they performed.

Our parents absolutely loved our performance and gave us a massive round of applause at the end.  They were very proud of us and it felt good to be able to show off our learning.

Our families coming in to support us is so important for our learning.  We really appreciate them taking the time to come and see us and for sharing our learning with us.

This project has been a fantastic experience for all of us and we have learned lots – singing, movement, setting up lights, setting up mics, setting up sound and so much more.  The most important thing we have learned is that there are so many opportunities for successful careers in the arts.

We had our final session with The tutors from The Conservatoire this week.

The music group were perfecting the timing and tuning of their performance.

The movement group added in some last minute moves.  They were working hard to make sure they were all moving at the same time and their performance was flowing.

The technicians were told what their role would be on the day and they moved to their positions.  Some of the group are in charge of the microphones which is very important for the music group and the rest of the group are in charge of the sound and the lights which is important for the entire performance and the movement group.  

Zain was very busy checking the floor plan and becoming familiar with it.  It is very important for technicians to know exactly what is happening and when as they control the sound and the lights for the entire performance.

We had some fun on the mics too.  Shouting on Mr Stewart, just to make sure the mics were working of course.

A massive thank you and well done to every pupil in Primary 6 for all of their hard work during term 3.  You each showed patience and maturity while we learned out in the corridor this term.  It was not easy but you all made it easier by being fun, polite and caring towards me and each other.  I’m so proud of you all and can’t wait to learn in our new classroom in term 4.

Primary 6, 6/7 and 7 took part in the BBC’s 500 words competition a couple of months ago.  We each had to plan and write a story which was then submitted to the BBC competition.  Thousands of children across the UK enter the competition and the winner gets an amazing prize.

At St Albert’s, we decided to have our own 500 words competition.  Mrs Brightman kindly agreed to be the judge of our competition.  Mrs Brightman said all the stories were fantastic and she was very impressed by the writing produced.  

On the last day of term 3, Mrs Brightman came into school with her adorable daughter Audrey to announce the winners.  There were bronze, silver and gold winners.

Well done to Sarmud, Zain, Ahsan, Abeeha, Safa and Innaya for achieving a bronze award for their writing.  Their stories were fantastic.

Zoha from our class was awarded silver for her story which meant she got over 40 marks out of 50.  Pretty impressive!!!!

Massive well done to everybody for submitting a story, they were all excellent.  Remember, to become a better writer, you need to read lots of different books and let your imagination grow.

Today during our maths lesson, we decided to go to the park to collect litter so that we could tally mark the amount of litter collected and also clean up the park at the same time.

We split into 4 groups and had a competition to see which group could collect the most litter.  We used the litter picking equipment from school to help us pick up the litter.

Zack got fully into the role of litter picker by putting on this funky litter picking vest.  #fashionista #vogue

This was so much fun because we were competing against the other groups and we all wanted to win.
Aaron said the litter picker looked like a crocodile’s mouth and like the greater than and less than sign.

We brought our maths jotters with us so that we could make a tally chart of the mount of rubbish we collected.  This links in with our data handling topic that we have been learning about in class.

Tomorrow, we will make a bar graph and a pie chart with the information on our tally chart.

Here’s a picture of the winning team.  The collected over 200 pieces of litter although the rest of us think they might be telling a wee white lie!!

After we had finished our litter picking and completed our tally chart in our jotter, we played in the park.  This was fun and definitely well deserved after all of our hard work!!  You can see from our faces that we are fearless and had so much fun.

 

 

Today we had another great session with The Conservatoire.

The movement group and the production group came together to link what they have been learning in previous weeks.  The production group had to think hard about the lights that should go along with the performance that the movement group were putting on.

It was cool to see the way the lights made the ceiling look.  We created shadows on the ceiling with our bodies and the lights.

The movement group also learned new moves which will be part of our end performance.

The production group had to decide on which colour lights they would use depending on what was happening in the performance. For example, we decided to use blue when the image of a waterfall is being created.

The music group were busy learning the tune of their song on the glockenspiel.  We had to focus on how we held the beater to make sure the best possible sound comes from hitting the note.  We also focused on keeping the correct time of the music and not rushing certain notes.
