Curriculum for Excellence (often shortened to CfE) is the\u00a0 curriculum in Scotland which applies to all children and young<\/strong>
\npeople age 3-18, wherever they are learning. It aims to raise<\/strong>
\nachievement for all, enabling young people to develop the<\/strong>
\nskills, knowledge and understanding they need to succeed in<\/strong>
\nlearning, life and work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Four Capacities \u2013 the curriculum aims for all children to become:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Successful Learners<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Confident Individuals<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Responsible Citizens<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Effective Contributors<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Seven Principles of Curriculum Design \u2013 all learning<\/strong>
\nmust take account of these principles:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Challenge and enjoyment<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Breadth<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Progression<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Depth<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Personalisation and choice<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Coherence<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Relevance<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eight Curriculum Areas \u2013 containing a range of subjects:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Expressive Arts \u2013 including art and design, dance, drama<\/strong>
\nand music<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Health and Wellbeing \u2013 mental, emotional, social and<\/strong>
\nphysical wellbeing, PE, food and health, substance misuse<\/strong>
\nand relationships, sexual health and parenthood<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Languages \u2013 listening and talking, reading and writing in<\/strong>
\nliteracy and English and modern languages, plus classical<\/strong>
\nlanguages and literacy and G\u00e0idhlig\/Gaelic learners (where<\/strong>
\navailable)<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Mathematics \u2013 including analysing information, solving<\/strong>
\nproblems and assessing risk<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Religious Education <\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 learning about our Catholic Faith using This is Our Faith as a guide.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Sciences \u2013 understanding important scientific concepts<\/strong>
\nacross planet Earth, forces, electricity and waves, biological<\/strong>
\nsystems, materials and topical science<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Social Studies \u2013 understanding people, place and society<\/strong>
\nin the past and present including history, geography,<\/strong>
\nmodern studies and business education<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Technologies \u2013 including computing science, food,<\/strong>
\ntextiles, craft, design, engineering, graphics and applied<\/strong>
\ntechnologies<\/strong><\/p>\n
