It aims to raise<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>achievement for all, enabling young people to develop the<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>skills, knowledge and understanding they need to succeed in<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>learning, life and work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Four Capacities \u2013 the curriculum aims for all children to become:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>Successful Learners<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Confident Individuals<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Responsible Citizens<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Effective Contributors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Seven Principles of Curriculum Design \u2013 all learning<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>must take account of these principles:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Challenge and enjoyment<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Breadth<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Progression<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Depth<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Personalisation and choice<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Coherence<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Relevance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Eight Curriculum Areas \u2013 containing a range of subjects:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Expressive Arts \u2013 including art and design, dance, drama<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>and music<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Health and Wellbeing \u2013 mental, emotional, social and<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>physical wellbeing, PE, food and health, substance misuse<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>and relationships, sexual health and parenthood<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Languages \u2013 listening and talking, reading and writing in<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>literacy and English and modern languages, plus classical<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>languages and literacy and G\u00e0idhlig\/Gaelic learners (where<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>available)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Mathematics \u2013 including analysing information, solving<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>problems and assessing risk<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Religious Education <\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u2013 learning about our Catholic Faith using This is Our Faith as a guide.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Sciences \u2013 understanding important scientific concepts<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>across planet Earth, forces, electricity and waves, biological<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>systems, materials and topical science<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Social Studies \u2013 understanding people, place and society<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>in the past and present including history, geography,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>modern studies and business education<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2022 Technologies \u2013 including computing science, food,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>textiles, craft, design, engineering, graphics and applied<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Stages and levels<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>a\u00a0<a title=\"Broad general education\" href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/broad-general-education\/\">broad general education<\/a>, providing a rounded education from the early years until the end of S3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The broad general education is divided into five\u00a0<a title=\"Curriculum levels\" href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-levels\/\">curriculum levels<\/a>\u00a0(Early, First, Second, Third and Fourth) across\u00a0<a title=\"Curriculum areas\" href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/parentzone\/learning-in-scotland\/curriculum-areas\/\">eight curriculum areas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Parent guides to the curriculum<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/curriculum-for-excellence\/about-curriculum-for-excellence\/what-is-curriculum-for-excellence\/\">https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/curriculum-for-excellence\/about-curriculum-for-excellence\/what-is-curriculum-for-excellence\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Curriculum for Excellence (often shortened to CfE) is the\u00a0 curriculum in Scotland which applies to all children and young people age 3-18, wherever they are learning.
